When we ended 2019 on a high footnote, none of us were expecting a calamity of this scale to dawn upon us. While we have Bill Gates who had been warning we are ill-prepared for the next pandemic since 2015, the global weakness is exposed to its core when it really happened.

And almost 6 months since the outbreak of Covid-19; it has claimed more than 400,000 lives and infected more than 8million people. It has put every human being on Earth on a course to change our way of living; never will we be the same again. The COVID-19 pandemic has left us with an unpredictable and fluid situation ahead. We are entrenched in a new perspective in how we are looking at our transportation mode.

The typical family car interior has a volume of about 100 cubic feet, a 10th the size of a bedroom. And we might cram four, or sometimes five, people into that small space. It’s impossible to social distance.

A simple scenario: riding in car for 72 minutes with an infected passenger who seems fine other than coughing every few minutes. [credits to https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/04/22/coronavirus-car-protect-yourself-column/5166146002/]

coronavirus-accumulation-in-cars

When the windows are closed, SARS-CoV-2 (in fine aerosol particles) accumulates in the car cabin. With each new cough, the concentration builds up with no significant dilution happening.

While the extreme scenario of ditching our private transport is unlikely, but it is probable that the “new normal” will include a shift towards more concern about personal hygiene and in-depth cleanliness for our car.

Specifically, three factors will influence the future of car ownership — and many other industries, too.

Increase of Car Ownership

Non-car owners have a higher intention to acquire new cars, due to a lack of trust in public transportation. We believe we may see, a wave to buy a private car to avoid taking public transport. More families would acknowledge the potential hazard and would consider taking possession of a family size sedan that would fit their budget and lifestyle.

Surge in Contactless Delivery

Another side effect of the COVID-19 lockdowns is an acceleration of the trend towards contactless communication because of social distancing and the closure of physical retail premises.

This trend will persist as employees continue to work from home and less family trips are being planned. Many drivers would be concerned about potential cross contamination and is likely to minimize human contact – the challenge for our business is the provision of contactless delivery while maintaining the human touch.

Increased Awareness of Interior Cabin Sanitization

The knee jerk effect during the initial phase was a surge in cabin sanitization services. However, we are indeed at war now against an invisible and persistent enemy that will continue to plague us until an effective vaccine is developed and globally distributed.  This is the time for drivers to make structural changes in their cleaning schedule because the world has fundamentally changed and there is no turning back.

The demand of a more efficient and tested methods for sanitization would rise; EA Detailer has partnered with ERST [https://www.erst-project.de/] – a German company which specialize in the production and development of surface coatings with a functional long-term effect, cleaning and disinfecting products

We offer solutions to the causes of prevailing problems that have a long-term effect and thus provide the user of our services with a smooth daily practice. In our company, we fulfill these tasks together as one unit in order to address the associated challenges and constant changes in a coordinated manner. We actively determine the future through personal commitment and the individual performance of each and every employee, thus sustainably bringing real value to our customers.

Pickup, delivery or Tabao? It’s a question Singaporean have grown accustomed to answering for food delivery and groceries during the coronavirus pandemic. It also might be something they’re asked when detailing their vehicle.

The Covid-19 crisis has upended auto detailing current modus, and we don’t think they will ever be the same again. It is pertinent that we adapt our business strategies and invest in new digital sales tools as consumers’ demand more online and personalized services.

For digital, this whole disruptive period with corona is an inflection point from which there’s no turning back. What that means for consumers is being able to choose how much or how little of the process they want to conduct online. That includes scheduling an appointment or delivery of a vehicle to appraising the paintwork.

More importantly, it should result in less, if any, time waiting at workshop and flexible options such as having the vehicle picked up or delivered – It’s a more flexible process that doesn’t have to be conducted during traditional business hours.

The coronavirus pandemic has been an accelerant to online sales for the industry, which has been reluctant to adopt such processes due to fear of disrupting their profitable physical operations.

The Anticipated Changes

That doesn’t mean physical workshop won’t be needed going forward. It’ll just be different, including new sanitization processes and a larger combination of online and in-person sales.

The bar has now been raised for any company that wants to perform in this marketplace. We will need first-class digital capability, a safe environment for our customers and a safe environment for our associates. – That is the Holy Grail going forward

We believe the majority of our customers want to visit our showrooms and witness their vehicles being treated. But in many cases, they will do the majority of their shopping online, they may even narrow down the exact service they want prior to coming to the store, but they want to set an appointment, drop the vehicle and make sure they like it.

About 15% of EA Detailer’s sales include delivering vehicles to a customer’s home. And this will evolve over time, more people will take advantage of this.

Online Engagement

We expect the coronavirus will have a long-lasting impact on our industry and consumer purchasing behaviour, particularly online processes.

Most of the customers have been comfortable with it in other parts of their lives, but in auto detailing they haven’t been as comfortable with it, as times goes by they will certainly be more comfortable with it today.

Our focus is on providing a process that “moves customers seamlessly between the online world and offline world.”

This pandemic has propelled our entire company into the digital space. And while online sales aren’t completely supplementing the loss of traditional sales due to the coronavirus pandemic. But we believe the traditional model may be fading or diminishing. Floor traffic won’t go away 100%, but online is just an easier process for everybody involved.

Online Engagement

After three months of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to officially announce the launch on 15th June 2020. We wanted to make the new website faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly.

As a market leader, it’s important for us to make information regarding our thought leadership, services and trends easily accessible for our current and prospective clients. We endeavour to provide our client with the most accurate, up-to-date information and share our knowledge and expertise in the field of auto detailing.

Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors an easier way to learn about EA Detailer’s services and to browse information based on their own choice. The new website gives better access to How We Work, Case Studies, Expertise & Services, Blog and a more direct manner in communicating with us.

As the leading Auto Detailer in Singapore, EA Detailer started an exclusive partnership with Sonax to offer the world’s most powerful ceramic coating. Top 5 reasons why Ceramic Paint Protection Coating is a must have for the discerning automobile enthusiasts who want their cars feeling like it never left the showroom .

5 Benefits of Ceramic paint coating for cars

1. Best Car Paint Protection

Our ceramic coating provides a resilient, flexible protective surface to the car’s body, shielding against all forms of foreign matter which might compromise the integrity of the paintwork. On the daily commute, a car will be subjected to attacks to its body, from debris, UV damage and foreign contaminants. Having a ceramic coating ensures that the paintwork of the car is sealed in a protective layer that prolong the longevity of the car’s paintwork.

2. Durability of Ceramic Coating

With our state of the art equipment and superior technique, we ensure that the coating will be bonded tightly to the car and will not be affected by most external forces. This is in sharp contrast to more traditional vehicle coatings such as wax, which wears off when exposed to environmental elements and foreign contaminants

3. Hydrophobic Effect and Resistance to Dirt

No one car is perfectly smooth, polishing and applying a coat to any one car is a science. The more uneven or perforated a surface is, the easier it is for dirt to find pockets and pits to cling on to. After polishing and claying of the surface, we apply a layer of ceramic coating which works at a molecular level to ensure that that dirt that stick to the surface of the car can be easily removed. Most surface contaminants and dirt will skid off, leaving the car in showroom condition for longer periods of time.

4. Elimination of Constant Re-application

Unlike traditional methods of getting your car “coated”, a single application of Ceramic coating and proper care and maintaining, Ceramic Coating will withstand a long duration of time and EA Detailer is proud to claim that our ceramic coating has a 10-year warranty that it will not spoil your paintwork

5. Time and Cost – Effective

Through this article, EA Detailer will give you the best paint protection at a special price. That’s savings in terms of money and time.

What are you waiting for? For the aspiring car enthusiast or the busy family man who wants the best hassle-free protection for our beloved vehicles. Make an appointment with EA Detailer now.

Introduction to EAD Paint Protection Coating

Once a vehicle exits the manufacturing plant, the paintwork is subjected to harsh conditions. Through regular usage, it will endure scratches from flying debris and other environmental factors.

Tree sap, acidic rain and bird droppings eats away the exterior paintwork through chemical reactions. To remove such surface contaminants, the vehicle should be cleaned regularly, but frequent maintenance will also cause the paint coat to get thinner and eventually corrode.

To retain the original paint finish, many vehicle owners are looking for the most reliable sealing products. There are many to choose from, which can be quite confusing.

These substances eventually evaporate and can be removed easily with a wet cloth. They are prone against external environmental damage. Also, the chemicals from these products may be risk-factors for discoloration, can corrode the painted finish, or even cause water marks.

Other factors that make paint coat thinner and corrode each time are washing, cutting, polishing, weather, UV solar rays, and other things. Therefore, its original color is not long-lasting. Due all the various elements, a weather worn and damaged paint surface will devalue the vehicle and affect its beauty. Getting a new paint job then becomes a necessity under these conditions.

This is the reason that many vehicle owners try to find Paint Protection Coating in protecting their vehicle paintwork and condition. Till 16 Jan 2017, EA Detailer have served 2,556 drivers to get their cars coated; we have two types of Paint Protection Coating

In a perfect world, you wouldn’t need to polish your car’s paint.  Cleaning and waxing is all that’s really necessary to protect and beautify your car’s finish. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world.  Your car’s paint is bombarded by contaminants and assaulted by foreign objects every day.

Many people believe that cars come off the assembly line with perfect paint.  That’s far from the case.  There are many conditions that cause minor paint  flaws requiring additional finishing work.  Dust nibs (small particles that land in  the paint while it is still wet) are a good example. Most car manufacturers take care of these problems at the factory using abrasive finishing materials.

Here’s a general rule to follow.  If a scratch or other flaw can be felt with your fingernail,  it’s too deep to be completely removed through polishing.  That’s not to say that polishing won’t help hide the flaw, it will.  If scratches run too deep into the clear coat, polishing cannot fix the problem.  However, polishing a deep scratch will hide or lessen the appearance of the problem.

Matt finishes have the same basic rules. You should not remove more than  50% of the top coat (colour coat) finish when repairing a scratch or other paint flaws.

It is important to understand how a polish can be used to “hide” scratches and other micro marring.  Scratches have hard edges that run at a 30 to 60 degree downward slope.  It is the hard edge and angle of a  scratch that creates a perfect opportunity for light reflection.  It is this reflection that  enhances the visibility of the scratch.  A good polish rounds the edges of scratches,  reducing reflection.

6 Defects that car polish can solve:

Scratches
Surface abrasions that do not extend past the first 25% of top coat material can be fully repaired by polishing.  Deeper scratches can be improved as long as they do not fully penetrate the color coat into the primer.

Scuffs and rub marks
Scuffs are broad, shallow surface abrasions that are easily repaired by polishing.  Rub marks are commonly caused by shoe heels  (getting in and out of the car) or the bumpers of other cars.  The rub mark is generally a transfer of rubber or other vinyl material to the paint surface.  Rub marks are easily removed by compounding and polishing.

Swirl Mark
Micro marring, also known as swirl marks and spider webbing, means very small scratches in the paint’s surface.  Micro marring is created by machine compounding and in everyday use and maintenance of the vehicle. Micro marring is easily removed by compounding and polishing.

Etching
Paint etching is a common problem caused by hard water (tap water) or acidic water (acid rain).  Bird droppings are another common cause of paint etching.  Depending on the severity of the etching, polishing will repair or lessen the appearance of etched spots.

Orange peel
When a car is painted, the paint is applied at a consistency and thickness that allows the paint to flow (briefly) and level.  If the paint is applied too heavily, sags and runs will result.  If applied too thinly, the paint does not properly flow and level, causing an uneven surface called orange peel.  If the orange peel is not severe, abrasives can be used to level and glaze the finish to match the rest of the vehicle.

Fish eyes
The is is an eye-like mark on the paint surface resulting from contaminated air in the paint booth or area.

If you are into car detailing, you have may have heard the term Paint Correction. This term means different things to different people, so we thought we would set the record straight. Paint correction can also be known as swirl mark removal or machine polishing, or generically as car polishing, however, it is much more detailed than that. Over time your car will lose its factory fresh shine so it is important to keep on top of it. Right?

To be clear, Paint Correction is a process used by detailers to fix minor scratches either by removing them or reducing them by applying a series of compounds, cleansers, or polish, and using special buffers to restore your car’s shine. Paint correction is not the application of paint markers or trying to hide blemishes. For very bad damage a paint restoration or respraying of the car may be necessary.

Your car faces many obstacles in its life. Most of these things cannot be avoided in the day to day operation of your vehicle. So treatment is needed to restore your car’s shine. There are two levels of paint correction:

Diminishing Abrasives Technique

Diminishing abrasive polishes start with a larger abrasive (more aggressive) that, over time, becomes finer and finer (and polishes its own scratches away) you may ask yourself how a non diminishing abrasive polish, which only uses fine abrasives can deliver the same amount of cut (polishing power)? The answer is in the amount of abrasives used.

In order for a non diminishing abrasive polish to deliver enough polishing power to remove paint defects it must use more abrasives in general. This process takes a much longer time as compared to the traditional SMAT methods – It is not a “1-Compound” from start to finish.

Super Micro Abrasive Technique (SMAT)

Using a SMAT polish is a totally different then using a diminishing abrasive polish. There is a higher load of ultra-refined crystal abrasives working at any given time. Because SMAT are more susceptible to over working it is important stop polishing as soon as the desired effect is achieved (either removing defects or finishing).

Also, because of the reasons above, it is extremely important to keep the polishing pad clean and free of residue or excess polish. Most of the car groomer would opt for this option, it saves money and time. If you understand Chinese, the best analogy is – 一招走天下 (Using one stroke to conquer the world)

At EA Detailer, we uses only Diminishing Abrasive Technique for the following reasons:
– It is gentler on the car paint (Think of it, how could you be applying only one kind of skin care products on your face?)
– It achieve permanent and authentic results, this is not a process like SMAT when the compound can fill/cover certain scratches – we detail layer by layer until its surface present the perfect gloss.
– Every car paint is unique, SMAT assumes the same treatment to every surfaces. A Professional detailer knows what is the difference between the bumper and the bonnet

At EA Detailer, before any paintwork correction is carried out, the entire vehicle is measured for paint thickness with a paint thickness gauge which is used throughout the paint correction process. Removing just 2 – 3 microns (out of an average 110 – 140 microns) results in maximum effect. Swirl marks, mild scratches, bird stains, buffer marks etc. will be completely removed within 2 -3 microns from all types of paint.

If you require, EA Detailer can produce a report to show you the depth of paint before and after the paint correction process is complete, also detailing any repair work previously carried out on your vehicle.

Let’s show you the effort we passionately invested in order to achieve the Perfect Gloss now.

Car washing, it’s one of the most grueling and meticulous parts of maintaining a good car. It requires seriously attentive effort to ensure that the car is spotless, clean and in its top form.

Which begs the question, should you wash your car before or after it rains?

Then again, this raises more questions like, does it really matter when I wash my car? Will rainwater make my car dirtier or cleaner when I use it for washing? In this article, we look into all these questions and more, and find out when is the perfect weather to start washing your car.

To start off, we need to understand the effects of rainwater on a car. Rain, as we know it, is the moisture of water in the air condensed from the atmosphere that falls into droplets, so that must mean that the water from the rainfall is pure and good enough to wash the car, right? Not true. People think that when the car is seated under the rain, the water will wash the dirt and contaminants off the car. This is WRONG for 2 Reasons:

1. Contaminants in Rain

Actually, rain water can cause even more damage than it helps. This is because as rain falls, it collects pollutants and contaminants from the air, forming what is known as acid rain, which causes it to etch its way into the paint and damage your car’s surface. What’s left is essentially a thin layer of pollutants and the longer you leave them there, the more damage it can inflict on the paint surface. (However, in general a modern vehicle’s surfaces are highly resistant to rainwater, so there’s no need to worry if you get wet driving around town.) But a protective coating will help even more.

2. Pressure

Additionally, rainwater is also not as strong when it comes to wiping off the stains off a car, since it merely provides a light rinse which only creates mud and streaking. Even a strong rain does not have adequate pressure to remove dirt and there will always be a layer of grime that the rainwater won’t be able to dislodge. Overall, rainwater is not such a good idea as a way to wash your car. You actually need the high pressure of a commercial washer to remove all the dirt and contaminants.

We did an very unofficial (and somewhat casual)  survey to find out what people think. We found the following:

  •  Some people find it a waste of time to clean it all up only to have it rain on it the next day, and would wait until after the rain to wash their cars.
  • Most people noted that rainwater leaves water spots on the car.
  • Some people found that washing their car before the rain the spots wouldn’t appear.
  • A few people felt that the rain will turn the existing car surface dirt into a bigger mess, especially if that car is outside while it rains those rain droplets rub that dirt into your paint and potentially cause some sort of defect.

So Who is Right?

The funny part is they both are in a way.  For some, getting their car washed before the rain may seem a waste but people tend to wash them anyway. For those who waited till after the rain, they find their car is actually dirtier. For our part, given the frequency (and unpredictability) of rain in Singapore, it doesn’t really matter. When you wash your car, it’s always after the last rain, and before the next one. Which can happen in the same day anyhow.

However, jokes aside, washing your car, even once every two weeks, can be a great way to protect your car from dirt and contaminants that can eat away at the exterior of your car and create unsightly blemishes in your paint.  The key takeaway: rain does an horrible job at washing your car.

The best way to protect your car, however, is to apply a paint protective coating. These coatings have a hardness level which helps in Anti Scratch Resistance, Anti Oxidation Resistance , durable, and extremely hydrophobic, meaning they repel water.

At EA Detailer, we offer 2 types of Premium Coatings – Diamondbrite Foundation Coating  and Titanium Glass Coating. Both of these coatings protect your car from rain.
