IS IT NECESSARY FOR PROFESSIONAL CAR INTERIOR CLEANING SERVICES?

Most car owners believe that interior cleaning of a car will be to wipe off dust particles and interior cabin vacuuming will be sufficient. Yes, it does look clean but such actions are generally more for normal upkeeping purposes.

Treatment process such as washing of the seats and panels, cleansing to freshen them up, disinfecting and sanitizing to kill off germs and bacterias which is invisible to the naked human eye.

Let’s pause and think these questions to ourselves.

#1 – Would you agree that our vehicles are dirtier than our home, and most of us will spend more time traveling in our vehicles?

#2 – Would you agree that there are germs, bacteria spreading all around us outdoors which subconciously, we will also bring in these germs & bacteria into our vehicle by touching our steering wheel, door panels, aircon switches etc?

#3 – Would you agree the car has a direct interaction in “receiving” these germs, bacteria and at times new “friends” such as cockroaches /bugs as compared to our homes?

#4 – Pre-schools and child care centre take extra caution and effort to sanitize the environment for young aged children who visits the premises almost on daily basis. Upon a child enters the Pre-school or child care centre, he/she will be checked of the body temperature for signs of falling sick such as fever and flu. Parents will be advised and recommended to bring their child/children to the doctor for immediate attention.

#5 – Most of us keep homes well cleaned up but overlooked in caring for our vehicles. As our children who are still in the growing phase and may not have a strong immune system like a normal adult, they may be more prone in falling sick.

To minimise / avoid any possible risks of uncleaned environment for our family, ourselves and our children, weekly basis of car wash, vacuuming of the car cabin interior is recommended to be done at least once a week regardless our busy schedule. This can be done easily on DIY basis even while bonding you’re your family.

Professional interior cleaning service usually covers more extensive steps in purging of possible cockroaches & bugs, sanitizing of the interior cabin, washing away of stubborn dirt and stains on our leather, fabric or alcantara seats etc. Such processes requires specialised equipment which is quite irrelevant and may be costly to purchase. Specialised equipment may also require skills and experience for proper handling. Recommended regular basis will be once 3 to 5 month.

Cockroaches are known to be the terrors in the night.

You might get into your vehicle one car in the middle of the night; when the lights of the interior cabin lights up, you can find scrambling black things scrambling around the area. Just the sight of this, it imposes a creepy feeling factor. Cockroaches do pose a threat in that they can carry microbes, germs and bacterias that may cause allergic reactions in humans, at times, some weird offensive odour. They find food in your vehicle, it’s feeding them well and they love it.

Cockroaches have been known to have the ability to live up to 3 months without food and a couple of weeks without water. They are also resilient enough to survive very cold environments. Of course, prevention is preferable to killing cockroaches when it comes to these tough and persistent bugs.

WHAT DO COCKROACHES EAT?

These bugs are not picky. They feed on almost anything they can get their legs on, but they are very much attracted to

  • Sweets
  • Human food takeaways
  • Meat
  • Starches
  • Decaying Matter
  • and even bodies of other insects

A few tips and tricks to minimise cockroaches’ appearance.

Keep your vehicle cabin clean and spotless. Wipe and dust your interior cabin as much as possible. It helps to minimise possible particles that cockroaches feed on (invisible to the human naked eye) .

Vacuum more than you already do. Food crumbs and surprising amounts of decaying matter can collect on the floor surfaces. Vacuum can help to minimise such tasty things as a food source to the cockroaches.

Take out the trash often. Do not leave any possible food trash in your cabin. Throw out sweet wrappers, don’t leave breath mints containers lying around; if you do, ensure that they are tightly sealed as the fragnant smell of mints may also serve as an attraction.

Keep cockroaches a safe distance away can also make your vehicle interior a bit cleaner; which is also easy to develop cleaning habits that will help keep these unfortunate insects from wandering in and hanging around.

Professional Cleaning and Sanitizing Services. While there is so much of what we, as the car owners can do, send your vehicle for a professional cleaning and saniziting service as part of a routine basis of upkeeping and maintaining. A good frequency will be at least 2 to 3 times within a year.

WHY ARE THERE COCKROACHES IN OUR CARS?

Do you get the terrorising feeling or rather disgusting experience when you spot a cockroach in your vehicle? Well, most of us do.

Most of us do not frequently hear about cockroaches living in vehicles, so the natural thought that goes into one’s mind will be that “Nah, there’s no cockroaches in my vehicle. I don’t even eat in it!”

But when a cockroach is spotted especially when driving along a road or even the expressway, our thoughts changes.

Let’s stop and think – Where are cars commonly parked?

Right, our vehicles will be parked near or under trees, beside drains, rubbish chutes, manholes and sewages. These are hot spots that cockroaches and bugs are usually lurking around due to the dark, humid and cooling environment. We definitely would not know when they decide to hop onto your car.

Other than eating in the vehicle, food takeaways and irregular cleaning plays a part as well; not to forget there might be possible food remains in our shoe soles which we may stepped on before getting into our vehicle again.

Can cockroaches be get rid of from our vehicles? Are more of them living in our vehicles? What is next to be done?

Now, some of us might spot a cockroach in our vehicle and decides what’s needed is just to do some cleaning.

Do you know cockroaches can burrow into small places that you might never notice even while cleaning? They’ll reproduce under your seat, in the car frame, in the speakers and other small, dark and cramped places. There are still areas in a vehicle interior cabin that we can’t even reach. Moreover, in a clean car, these cockroaches and bugs will not vacate and disappear on their own, regardless the weather is hot or cold outside. What they are looking for is a shelter, and they can go a long time without eating anything.

You need to do more than interior detailing your vehicle cabin to get these cockroaches out; however, searching for missing bread crumbs or biscuit crumbs is what can be done by any one of us.

Once your vehicle is cleaned up, you can also consider to buy cockroach bait.

Place them under the car seats and in the corners of the trunk. This will give cockroaches the possible food and water they need, but with the poison that may kill them eventually.

While it’s possibly still early before the infestation starts, it is usually recommended to send for a professional service to purge, clean and sanitize your vehicle to find out how bad the infestation possibly is.

Don’t let cockroaches take over our vehicles!

Spotting one cockroach is the first sign of a cockroach infestation.

What is Hot Water Extraction?

Hot water extraction carpet cleaning is easy to understand. First, a powerful machine heats water in the cleaning truck. Trained carpet cleaning experts use a professional hot water extraction cleaning machine to inject water and a cleaning solution into the carpet and remove dirt. The machine then extracts the solution and the hot water back out of the carpet so that it can dry quickly. While there is visible steam from the hot water, it is the water doing the cleaning, not the steam.

How is Hot Water Extraction Different from Steam Cleaning?

First of all, steam is hotter then hot water. Obviously, to get steam, the water must boil and evaporate into steam. Steam can actually set some stains in. If a cleaning agent like detergent is being used, steam cannot provide as thorough a rinse as using hot water provides. Hot water thoroughly flushes the carpet fibres and removes dirt.

Working with hot water extraction allows the team here at EA Detailer to provide exceptional cleaning that removes stains, dirt, and allergens without introducing any hazardous chemicals. It’s a service we’re more than happy to recommend to car owners, and questions concerning hot water extraction are some of the most common ones we’re asked.

That’s why we decided to put together this quick and easy guide.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=rpKzMXm0Np8

Key Benefits of Hot Water Extraction

Limits Allergens

Everything from dust to dog dander can settle in your carpet and start to irritate your allergies, but hot water extraction gets rid of them.

Kills Mold and Other Bacteria

Mold, bacteria, fungus, and dust mites can all live in your carpet, but hot water extraction kills them.

Endorsed by the IICRC

The IICRC only certifies cleaning methods that live up to the highest standards, and hot water extraction makes the grade.

Eco-Friendly

Unlike shampoo cleaning, hot water extraction uses nothing more than water and heat, making it a remarkably eco-friendly method.

If you’re not won over by the ability of hot water extraction to banish bacteria and eliminate allergens without introducing any hazardous chemicals, consider the fact that your carpets and rugs will also look better than ever.

Hot water extraction exposes the dirt and dust to exceedingly high temperatures, causing the physical bonds between dirt and carpet to loosen and dissolve. Any debris is removed completely, and you’ll be able to reach into those tricky cracks and crevices that often remain untouched by vacuum cleaners. Even hard-to-remove substances such as wax, chewing gum, and glue can be removed using hot water extraction—and the surfaces will dry far faster than they do with shampoo cleaning, since steam evaporates faster than water dries.

Hot Water Extraction is the Gold Standard interior cabin cleaning

Simply put, nothing comes close to the performance of hot water extraction. Making your car interior seats more hygienic and good-as-new, it’s an unrivalled cleaning option.

Have you dealt with odours from cigarette smoke to bodily fluids, including, but not limited to, vomit, blood, mucus, dog faeces, and urine of your kids?

How about leaks around doors and left your windows open in rain storms?

Or worst still forgotten groceries under seats for weeks, and experienced the nauseating realisation that a mouse has died somewhere inside my car.

It all stinks, but it all can be cleaned up.

Air fresheners are nice, but they only cover up the stink. To get rid of a car smell, you need to get at the source, and that source is usually in the fabric itself.

1. Cigarette Smell

Cigarette smoke isn’t only stinky, it’s also quite sticky in that it forms a resin on surfaces. That resin is called tar, and though it’s not the same stuff that’s used to pave roads, it does share a couple of similarities. The first step to removing this smell is to stop smoking in the car. Next, open all the doors and windows on a nice, warm, windy day. Then go over every surface with a 50/50 water and vinegar solution. That should be able to cut through the resin. If you have trouble, add a couple of drops of dish soap to the mix. Allow to dry completely before closing the doors.

2. Mildew

Another common car smell is caused by the fact that our cars drive through all kinds of weather. Car designers do a pretty good job, initially, with keeping the rain out of our cars. But a small bit of damage to a seal or one open window forgotten in a rain storm could mean that you have potential for mould growth. The best way to deal with this situation is to remove floor mats, soak up excess water, extract it from carpets and interior fabrics with a wet/dry vacuum, and set up a fan to keep air moving with all the doors open. If the mildew has already done its damage, then you are going to have to do some shampooing. You could use a commercial product or the homemade recipe listed below.

3. Food

Food smells aren’t difficult to remove. The wiser among us probably have rules against eating in their cars. First of all, if you’re driving, it’s dangerous and might be illegal. But secondly, it’s almost inevitable that you are going to drip or spill something. If you are hoping to trade that car in at some point, you are screwing yourself. Very often food smells go beyond drips and spills. More often it is related to an abundance of fast food wrappers, some of which might contain half-eaten sandwiches, a passed-over French fry, long-languishing lettuce, the gnawed-on bones of a not-so-recently-fried chicken. Look under your seats. You need to throw that stuff away! Good grief.

4. Leaky Organism

Accidents happen, especially if you are the owner of a leaky Labrador, an intoxicated roommate, or a human child. Bodily liquids like urine, vomit, mucus, blood, and faeces are potent pollutants that will sour the interior of any automobile. Besides their potential for infection and unavoidable ick-factor, they are also notoriously difficult to clean. You need to remove any solids and soak that stuff up right away. Absorbent powder is helpful in this kind of situation, but you could use paper towels, kitty litter, and/or baking soda if they are handy. If the liquid has dried, then you will need to scrape up the dried matter, rehydrate with water and vinegar, and extract with a wet/dry vacuum.

5. New Car Smell

New car smells are sort of poisonous; it is not something to be idolized in the form of a scented tree. Those so called “new car smells” are called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), and they are the same smells common in refinished rooms and new houses. Carpet glue, chemicals from making vinyl, drying paints, and hardening plastics all do something called off-gassing. You really don’t want to breathe that stuff; it’s one of the things that causes sick building syndrome, and it is potentially carcinogenic.

If you’ve got a particularly potent car smell that is biological in origin, you should consider an enzymatic cleaner. I first heard about them when watching a documentary about crime-scene clean-up. If anyone knows how to get rid of car smells, it’s them! The cleaners use a combination of enzymes from bacteria that can break down starches, proteins, and fats. It’s those types of things that keep doors sticking around your car. In fact, Amazon sells Greenwald’s cleaner in a handy kit.

6. Gasoline Smell

If you start to notice a faint scent of gasoline in your car and you haven’t been spilling it on yourself, you should really bring your car into the mechanic as soon as you can. You probably have a leak somewhere in your fuel system. Obviously, a gas leak has the potential to be dangerous in that it could cause your car to explode and kill you and everyone you love in a fiery ball of death. But it’s also polluting, albeit on a small scale, and a waste of gasoline—which never seems to get cheaper. Petroleum fumes can also give you headaches and cause dizziness. So, too, can the fumes that leak from an old or damaged exhaust pipe. Exhaust fumes contain CO, or carbon monoxide, which can even kill you in high enough concentrations. Just bring it in and get it fixed!

Ever since, we started Anti-Pest BioFumigation services; a lot of our industry peers start following suit. And in EAD, we got a lot of drivers asking – is the solution you are using safe for my kids? We will elaborate the type of chemical presently use in the market for your reference.

There are many roach control products sold, including bait, gel, granule, and aerosol spray formulations. When using these chemical products, take precautions to minimize human, pet, and environmental exposure. The information below will help you understand the risks associated with the active ingredients in these products.

According to our competitive analysis, we concluded that most of our industry peers uses an insecticide by the name of “ICE-PRO Fumigator”; the active ingredients of ICE PRO Fumigator are Pyrethroids.

Pyrethroid pesticides are applied as perimeter barrier sprays; they are found to be in high toxicity to the small invertebrates that serve as an essential part of the food web for fish and other aquatic animals.

In response to this environmental impact, in August 2012, the US EPA required manufacturers to revise the Directions for Use on labels for pyrethroid pesticide products to reduce ecological exposures through runoff and drift.

When safety is concerned, EAD places absolute priority. The solution we used is proprietary to us and 100% organic. We have our material safety data sheet in our showroom which you can refer to anytime. Our interior sanitisation solutions are also Singapore General Hospital Certified.

Through out the 2 years of our operation, we have some pretty bizarre encounters. Many of our clients come for interior sanitisation; and amongst the many, we have a few that shocked us. To protect the privacy of our clients, we replaced the names of individuals but all events are based on real life happenings.

Where is the other half of the cockroach?!

Mdm Chan is a mother of 3 kids, a son and a pair of twin daughters. They are aged 3 and 5 respectively. She returned home one of the evening and heard her youngest son non-stop crying and keep scratching his right ear.

In her own words, she told us – “The kids have different variants of cries; and her son’s howling is a cry of distress. It is not motivated by hunger or the need to change his diaper”

She brought him to KK Hospital immediately and upon diagnosis, the doctor retrieved half a cockroach from her son’s ear.

The next half – we found it under the baby seat….

The Ant colony in the BMW

Anne and May suspected that there is an ant nest residing in their newly registered BMW 320i. They showed us around their vehicle, and we saw a populous stream of black ants crawling. The ants were moving in a single file along every edges of the vehicle. If you are myrmecophobic, you are likely to lose your sanity. Even seasoned veteran like Felix Lin mentioned his after thoughts – “Seeing the ant makes my skin crawl”

We have to dismantle almost every compartments; the door panels, the center consoles, the seats, the whole set of front dashboard. And finally – we found a clump of Ants residing in the glove compartment area. The ant nest is hiding within the dashboard section.

Imagine seeing a squishy ball of crawling ants……. living with you…………

The Rat in the Toyota

This event has been the most talked about during our coffee break; and the most spine-shivering. We have a family friend who used to drive a Toyota Vanguard; he came to us one of this days after his Malaysian road trip and told us that he suspected that was a rat or mouse living in his car.

We were thinking “W**….. this sound impossible”

Seriously none of us have an immunity against the rodent; the fear of discovering a rat in a car is surmounting. It took 8 brave souls inching their way around the vehicle and finally found the rodent scurrying in the engine compartment………… if you think a rat can’t climb, you might want to have one to test it out.

After hair jerking moments and a lot of “man-screams”; we used boiling water to send the bugger to heaven. You might find us unsympathetic to the poor soul but none of us could be sane when you discover the most unexpected resident in an automobile.

Cockroach fumigation is too common; we are sure that our names are on the “kill bill” list of the colony. We have been solving more than roaches infestation.

Call us now at 6917 8396 or WhatsApp to https://www.eadetailer.com/speak2us if you think you might have a infestation of cockroach terriorising in your car cabin interior.

What is Steam Cleaning?

Vaporised water, which comes out of the attachments from a machine that physically resembles a vacuum cleaner – The steam vapor is exceptionally hot, usually over 93.33º C at the tip. Heat is the first important component. Heat weakens the physical bond between the dirt or stains to the various surfaces to which the dirt is sticking or is embedded. The second component is “dry steam” i.e. water which is almost moisture less steam. Using the “dry” steam, dirty surfaces can be wiped, scrubbed or rubbed clean.

Why is Vapor Steam Cleaning more effective than traditional cleaning?

All surfaces are actually porous. Steam can penetrate those pores and get at that embedded dirt.

What are the chief advantages of steam cleaning?

Hot steam vapor penetrates pores of the materials or surfaces to be cleaned, and cleans more thoroughly than normal supermarket cleaners and does so without the use of chemicals. This lack of chemicals used in the cleaning process is a huge benefit to those people who are sensitive to chemicals or are trying to reduce the level of toxicity in their cars especially if children are present.

• Non Toxic: Steam cleaning kills 99.99% of bacteria and doesn’t require the use of toxic and potentially harmful chemicals such as bleach or ammonia. Only heat and water are used, meaning your car cabin remains free from chemical residue and pollution.

• Child & Pet Friendly: The non-toxic nature of steam cleaning makes your car a much safer environment for children and pets.  A common chemical in many cleaning agents is Sodium Hydro-chlorite that has corrosive oxidising agents; if a child or pet was to make contact with surfaces still contaminated with residue it could burn their eyes, damage lungs, cause skin irritations or illness.

• Allergies: People with allergies and asthma will benefit significantly from steam cleaning. It uses only water and heat to create an all-natural steam that removes dirt and grime from any non-heat sensitive surface. Therefore, it won’t aggravate allergy symptoms or cause respiratory issues.
.
• Mold Removal: Perhaps the best advantage of all, is that hot steam vapor is a natural sanitizing and deodorizing agent without any chemical odor. When the vapor steam penetrates surfaces, it destroys mold spores, germs, viruses, dust mites, and bacteria. It is a wonderful sanitizer for environments where there have been adults or children with infections of any kind and now you want to restore the place to be infection free. This process will be more effective than most disinfecting chemicals.

Although the fact that steam vapor alone will miraculously clean most things, it is pertinent to note that for stubborn cleaning chores pre-spraying the area with a natural cleansing agent and then combining with steam vapor enhances the cleaning properties of the cleaning agent by a factor of several times.

EA Detailer invested in one of the most effective steam cleaners in the market; combined with SGH certified anti-viral agent – it is a lethal combination against the potential hazard your car cabin harvest.

Oh, those dark cockroaches infesting everything! The floors, the carpeting, even the car isn’t safe from their damn dirty antennae! And somehow, even with thousand sprays of bug repellent, nothing seems to be keeping these creatures out. It might be time to rake out the pandan leaves… but wait, you ask, how is this going to be effective in keeping the cockroaches out? Well, here in this article, we will explain.

Living in Singapore, you should be able to find them at your local market. this herb contains volatile oil which consist of compounds made from terpenes and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons which produces a smell that repels cockroaches.

But are pandan leaves really an effective solution against the vermin?

Since pandan leaves are a natural product, their levels of useful aroma chemicals vary significantly from one plant to the next. Pandan essences and extracts tend to produce a more reliable repellent effect, as long as the concentration of essential oils have been tested and normalized. In general, stronger-smelling leaves offer greater repellent ability.

They are actually much more potent and effective only when their essence are extracted; it required a much greater concentration of their pandan to have an effect. A study conducted in 2003, done by the School of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore showed that though pandan leaves work as a natural cockroach repellent, the concentration required to keep the critters away amount to you needing to be a pandan leaves trader.

In Singapore, drivers still believe in the myth of using pandan leaves to repel cockroaches in their vehicles. But given that there are limited benefits to using pandan leaves, it might just be worth a shot to try other contemporary methods. But then if you are a fan of Pandan Cake, sure; why not get some pandan leaves for your car. It’ll do you and your car some good, and sure beats air fresheners that some use anyway.
