How much do you understand about how infections can possibly happen inside a car interior?

Being an enclosed area, our car interiors can contain and help spread viruses that cause infectious diseases like Covid-19.

When an infected person coughs or exhales, small droplets from the nose or mouth land on surfaces in the car. Coronaviruses survive on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Other passengers, who can be family or friends can get infected when they come in contact with the surfaces of the small droplets, containing the virus, and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.

To maintain virus-free, clean and ensure ultimate safety during every trip, Erostitzer Self Disinfecting Coating service is introduced to ease this process in killing bacteria, germs and virus on various surfaces parts within your car interior.

At EA Detailer, we care for the safety of everyone. We are also pleased to announce that we are extending a 20% off on this Self Disinfecting Coating service and a free gift selection (out of 6 choices); valid from 1 August to 31 August 2020.

Earlier in 2020, Singapore has formed a new multi-agency task force has been formed to raise the standards of cleanliness and public hygiene in Singapore as a whole nation.

The SG Clean Taskforce aims to ensure the cleanliness of public spaces, encourage good personal hygiene and adjust social norms to reduce the spread of diseases. 5 personal hygiene habits have been emphasised on the new normal daily basis to bring the cleanliness and public hygiene to the next level to stop the spread of Covid-19 disease.

  1. Use Tissue Paper Whenever Sneezing or Coughing and Dispose of it Properly
  2. Use Serving Spoons When Having Group Meals
  3. Eat on Trays
  4. Keep Public Toilets Clean and Dry
  5. Wash Hands with Soup Regular and Take Temperature Daily

Let’s take a step further.

Environmental contamination is an important factor in the transmission of the virus, according to the latest research. But the virus is also easily removed by disinfection, underscoring the importance of cleaning high-touch public areas.

What we hear about coronavirus prevention so far has to do with good personal hygiene, such as frequent and proper handwashing. But what about our transportation options; especially for car owners and their family? It’s a new normal knowledge to know the importance in disinfecting car interior and keep it virus-free.

At EA Detailer, we have different levels of Car Interior Sanitization Treatments. Due to the recent worldwide pandemic situation, we have redesigned, upgraded and improved the sanitization process for car cabin interiors.

What’s more exciting is that, we also have introduced a new service “Erstotizer Self Disinfecting Coating” to ease the worries of car owners and their family. It is a longer-term Anti-Bacterial, Anti-Virus Clear Surface Coating – lasting to 24 months.

Protect yourself and your passengers through good car sanitation practices today! – whether you drive for personal or ride-sharing purposes.

You have been reading the rampant post about steam cleaning by autodetailers claiming it is effective against Covid-19. Before you send your vehicle to steam every surface, let’s find out some facts versus fiction.

If you didn’t stock up on bleach wipes and cleaning sprays before the big rush of panic buying, you’re probably frantically Googling “Does Steam Kill Covid?”. If you’re looking for other alternative cleaning solutions, one idea that’s been circulating online lately is steamers.

Some companies that make steamers claim that a blast with a steamer on soft surfaces such as upholstery can kill up to 99.9 percent of pathogens—which, for comparison, is the same track record claimed by many makers of bleach wipes and disinfectant sprays. Companies don’t go as far as to say that steamers can work on hard surfaces or take out SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 (aka novel coronavirus), but this does leave us wondering about utilizing this common tool for virus protection backup.

Using a steamer seems like a great cleaning solution if you don’t have disinfectants handy or even if you prefer to clean your place without chemicals, but can steam really kill viruses?

Actually, under certain circumstances, yes. “We use steam under pressure to kill viruses in autoclaves,” says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. (An autoclave is a medical device that uses steam to sterilize equipment and other objects.) “Steam is how we sterilize medical equipment that we use in the laboratory,” says Dr. Schaffner.

However, that steam is used in a controlled setting under pressure (which allows the steam to reach higher temperatures), and it’s unclear if steam would be as effective against SARS-CoV-2 or any other virus on a surface like your vehicle dashboard. “I’m not sure whether the time-temperature relationships that you would use when you’re steaming a car interior would kill the virus,” says Dr. Schaffner. There’s no research on steam being used this way but, in theory, it might work, he adds.

As far as what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has to say, the organization recommends that soft surfaces like carpets, rugs, and drapes be cleaned with basic soap and hot water. And for other frequently touched surfaces, it’s suggested that you disinfect these using a diluted bleach solution, an alcohol solution with at least 70 percent alcohol, and products that are on the Singapore Government’s disinfectant list.

If you’re interested in using a steamer to clean surfaces, Ruth Collins, Ph.D., an assistant professor of molecular medicine at Cornell University, recommends this hack to up your coronavirus protection: Lather up your surfaces with soap and hot water, and follow that with a good blast of steam to kill germs. While this coronavirus disinfecting method hasn’t been backed up by research, Collins points out that soap is known to dissolve the outer layer of SARS-CoV-2 and kill the virus. High temperatures can do the same. Together, she says, it should kill SARS-CoV-2, but again this isn’t foolproof and shouldn’t take the place of CDC-approved cleaning solutions.

Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses, meaning they have a protective membrane of fat, explains Collins. But that fat is “sensitive to detergent,” which is why the soap is a good partner, she says.

Steam may be effective on its own, but adding the soap is like extra insurance, says Collins. “If you put a thin film of soapy water down first and then come in with steam, you’ll have maximum penetration,” she says.

So, should you use steam to kill viruses? Experts are split: Some believe it works as an addition to other cleaners such as soap and water, while others don’t think steam can be as effective at killing viruses in real life as it is in a controlled lab setting. It’s important to reiterate that using steam as a way to kill viruses is not currently a disinfectant method approved.

That said, if you want to give steaming a try, there’s no harm in trying this. Just know that it may not be 100 percent effective.

When we ended 2019 on a high footnote, none of us were expecting a calamity of this scale to dawn upon us. While we have Bill Gates who had been warning we are ill-prepared for the next pandemic since 2015, the global weakness is exposed to its core when it really happened.

And almost 6 months since the outbreak of Covid-19; it has claimed more than 400,000 lives and infected more than 8million people. It has put every human being on Earth on a course to change our way of living; never will we be the same again. The COVID-19 pandemic has left us with an unpredictable and fluid situation ahead. We are entrenched in a new perspective in how we are looking at our transportation mode.

The typical family car interior has a volume of about 100 cubic feet, a 10th the size of a bedroom. And we might cram four, or sometimes five, people into that small space. It’s impossible to social distance.

A simple scenario: riding in car for 72 minutes with an infected passenger who seems fine other than coughing every few minutes. [credits to https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/04/22/coronavirus-car-protect-yourself-column/5166146002/]

coronavirus-accumulation-in-cars

When the windows are closed, SARS-CoV-2 (in fine aerosol particles) accumulates in the car cabin. With each new cough, the concentration builds up with no significant dilution happening.

While the extreme scenario of ditching our private transport is unlikely, but it is probable that the “new normal” will include a shift towards more concern about personal hygiene and in-depth cleanliness for our car.

Specifically, three factors will influence the future of car ownership — and many other industries, too.

Increase of Car Ownership

Non-car owners have a higher intention to acquire new cars, due to a lack of trust in public transportation. We believe we may see, a wave to buy a private car to avoid taking public transport. More families would acknowledge the potential hazard and would consider taking possession of a family size sedan that would fit their budget and lifestyle.

Surge in Contactless Delivery

Another side effect of the COVID-19 lockdowns is an acceleration of the trend towards contactless communication because of social distancing and the closure of physical retail premises.

This trend will persist as employees continue to work from home and less family trips are being planned. Many drivers would be concerned about potential cross contamination and is likely to minimize human contact – the challenge for our business is the provision of contactless delivery while maintaining the human touch.

Increased Awareness of Interior Cabin Sanitization

The knee jerk effect during the initial phase was a surge in cabin sanitization services. However, we are indeed at war now against an invisible and persistent enemy that will continue to plague us until an effective vaccine is developed and globally distributed.  This is the time for drivers to make structural changes in their cleaning schedule because the world has fundamentally changed and there is no turning back.

The demand of a more efficient and tested methods for sanitization would rise; EA Detailer has partnered with ERST [https://www.erst-project.de/] – a German company which specialize in the production and development of surface coatings with a functional long-term effect, cleaning and disinfecting products

We offer solutions to the causes of prevailing problems that have a long-term effect and thus provide the user of our services with a smooth daily practice. In our company, we fulfill these tasks together as one unit in order to address the associated challenges and constant changes in a coordinated manner. We actively determine the future through personal commitment and the individual performance of each and every employee, thus sustainably bringing real value to our customers.

Pickup, delivery or Tabao? It’s a question Singaporean have grown accustomed to answering for food delivery and groceries during the coronavirus pandemic. It also might be something they’re asked when detailing their vehicle.

The Covid-19 crisis has upended auto detailing current modus, and we don’t think they will ever be the same again. It is pertinent that we adapt our business strategies and invest in new digital sales tools as consumers’ demand more online and personalized services.

For digital, this whole disruptive period with corona is an inflection point from which there’s no turning back. What that means for consumers is being able to choose how much or how little of the process they want to conduct online. That includes scheduling an appointment or delivery of a vehicle to appraising the paintwork.

More importantly, it should result in less, if any, time waiting at workshop and flexible options such as having the vehicle picked up or delivered – It’s a more flexible process that doesn’t have to be conducted during traditional business hours.

The coronavirus pandemic has been an accelerant to online sales for the industry, which has been reluctant to adopt such processes due to fear of disrupting their profitable physical operations.

The Anticipated Changes

That doesn’t mean physical workshop won’t be needed going forward. It’ll just be different, including new sanitization processes and a larger combination of online and in-person sales.

The bar has now been raised for any company that wants to perform in this marketplace. We will need first-class digital capability, a safe environment for our customers and a safe environment for our associates. – That is the Holy Grail going forward

We believe the majority of our customers want to visit our showrooms and witness their vehicles being treated. But in many cases, they will do the majority of their shopping online, they may even narrow down the exact service they want prior to coming to the store, but they want to set an appointment, drop the vehicle and make sure they like it.

About 15% of EA Detailer’s sales include delivering vehicles to a customer’s home. And this will evolve over time, more people will take advantage of this.

Online Engagement

We expect the coronavirus will have a long-lasting impact on our industry and consumer purchasing behaviour, particularly online processes.

Most of the customers have been comfortable with it in other parts of their lives, but in auto detailing they haven’t been as comfortable with it, as times goes by they will certainly be more comfortable with it today.

Our focus is on providing a process that “moves customers seamlessly between the online world and offline world.”

This pandemic has propelled our entire company into the digital space. And while online sales aren’t completely supplementing the loss of traditional sales due to the coronavirus pandemic. But we believe the traditional model may be fading or diminishing. Floor traffic won’t go away 100%, but online is just an easier process for everybody involved.

Online Engagement

After three months of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to officially announce the launch on 15th June 2020. We wanted to make the new website faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly.

As a market leader, it’s important for us to make information regarding our thought leadership, services and trends easily accessible for our current and prospective clients. We endeavour to provide our client with the most accurate, up-to-date information and share our knowledge and expertise in the field of auto detailing.

Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors an easier way to learn about EA Detailer’s services and to browse information based on their own choice. The new website gives better access to How We Work, Case Studies, Expertise & Services, Blog and a more direct manner in communicating with us.

Car grooming / detailing is necessary and highly recommended to keep your car looking fresh out of the showroom as regular as possible. Such service helps in reducing wear and tear of the external and internal components of your car. Periodic washing and detailing will help keep your car neat, especially during those special occasions.

2 options are generally available for car owners like yourself : DIY or Professional help.

Which option would you go for?

DIY CAR GROOMING

DIY car grooming is you can save money by hands-on yourself. Buying the necessary products and spending X number of hours on your vehicle is the general basis to carry out the process.

Professional services tend to cost more as you get more specialized grooming services ; inclusive of products that are only available for professional detailers purchase and usage.

Keeping your car neat, and properly cleaned up constantly will be a day-to-day job and the most basic practice. Anyone can perform basic exterior and interior cleaning, which is extremely helpful for keeping your car looking sharp at all times. You can even learn some basic detailing techniques while you are at it!

A more involved experience.

This is perhaps the most compelling reason why car enthusiasts stick with DIY grooming. Grooming your car by yourself is a very involving experience, just like performing other maintenance by dipping your hands wet into a basin of water. Nothing is more intimate than doing the work needed for your car with your own hands. It simply enriches the experience of owning a car.

PROFESSIONAL CAR GROOMING

The main selling point for getting professional car grooming / detailing services is to have your vehicle being worked on by specialists. People who work in car detailing companies are trained in washing and detailing cars. They are capable of handling with care, and they can spot, found the cleanliness possibility for both inside and outside of your vehicle.

At car detailing premises, you can see right away an array of tools inside. Examples are high-pressure water nozzles, waxes, carpet cleaners, vacuums, and buff machines etc. These tools help in providing a more extensive grooming for all parts of your vehicle. It would be very impractical to own these tools, unless you own a bunch of cars and you want to maintain them all by yourself. Also, it takes skill and experience to be able to handle and utilise specialized equipment as such.

Time savings on Grooming

This is one of the most valuable perks that you can get for professional grooming services. While you can always do the grooming yourself, it consumes a lot of time. This can be quite impractical if you are working on a tight schedule. In addition, you will more likely than not spend more time completing the task than professional groomers would. Getting professional car grooming is very convenient. The pros will do the work for you while you wait or do other important things.

In conclusion, there is no right or wrong option when it comes to car grooming. You can always learn how to groom the car yourself, getting your hands dirty from time to time like any real car guy would. At the same time, you can always ask the help of professionals if you either have little time in your hands or you want your car to receive some extra TLC.

IS IT NECESSARY FOR PROFESSIONAL CAR INTERIOR CLEANING SERVICES?

Most car owners believe that interior cleaning of a car will be to wipe off dust particles and interior cabin vacuuming will be sufficient. Yes, it does look clean but such actions are generally more for normal upkeeping purposes.

Treatment process such as washing of the seats and panels, cleansing to freshen them up, disinfecting and sanitizing to kill off germs and bacterias which is invisible to the naked human eye.

Let’s pause and think these questions to ourselves.

#1 – Would you agree that our vehicles are dirtier than our home, and most of us will spend more time traveling in our vehicles?

#2 – Would you agree that there are germs, bacteria spreading all around us outdoors which subconciously, we will also bring in these germs & bacteria into our vehicle by touching our steering wheel, door panels, aircon switches etc?

#3 – Would you agree the car has a direct interaction in “receiving” these germs, bacteria and at times new “friends” such as cockroaches /bugs as compared to our homes?

#4 – Pre-schools and child care centre take extra caution and effort to sanitize the environment for young aged children who visits the premises almost on daily basis. Upon a child enters the Pre-school or child care centre, he/she will be checked of the body temperature for signs of falling sick such as fever and flu. Parents will be advised and recommended to bring their child/children to the doctor for immediate attention.

#5 – Most of us keep homes well cleaned up but overlooked in caring for our vehicles. As our children who are still in the growing phase and may not have a strong immune system like a normal adult, they may be more prone in falling sick.

To minimise / avoid any possible risks of uncleaned environment for our family, ourselves and our children, weekly basis of car wash, vacuuming of the car cabin interior is recommended to be done at least once a week regardless our busy schedule. This can be done easily on DIY basis even while bonding you’re your family.

Professional interior cleaning service usually covers more extensive steps in purging of possible cockroaches & bugs, sanitizing of the interior cabin, washing away of stubborn dirt and stains on our leather, fabric or alcantara seats etc. Such processes requires specialised equipment which is quite irrelevant and may be costly to purchase. Specialised equipment may also require skills and experience for proper handling. Recommended regular basis will be once 3 to 5 month.

WHY ARE THERE COCKROACHES IN OUR CARS?

Do you get the terrorising feeling or rather disgusting experience when you spot a cockroach in your vehicle? Well, most of us do.

Most of us do not frequently hear about cockroaches living in vehicles, so the natural thought that goes into one’s mind will be that “Nah, there’s no cockroaches in my vehicle. I don’t even eat in it!”

But when a cockroach is spotted especially when driving along a road or even the expressway, our thoughts changes.

Let’s stop and think – Where are cars commonly parked?

Right, our vehicles will be parked near or under trees, beside drains, rubbish chutes, manholes and sewages. These are hot spots that cockroaches and bugs are usually lurking around due to the dark, humid and cooling environment. We definitely would not know when they decide to hop onto your car.

Other than eating in the vehicle, food takeaways and irregular cleaning plays a part as well; not to forget there might be possible food remains in our shoe soles which we may stepped on before getting into our vehicle again.

Can cockroaches be get rid of from our vehicles? Are more of them living in our vehicles? What is next to be done?

Now, some of us might spot a cockroach in our vehicle and decides what’s needed is just to do some cleaning.

Do you know cockroaches can burrow into small places that you might never notice even while cleaning? They’ll reproduce under your seat, in the car frame, in the speakers and other small, dark and cramped places. There are still areas in a vehicle interior cabin that we can’t even reach. Moreover, in a clean car, these cockroaches and bugs will not vacate and disappear on their own, regardless the weather is hot or cold outside. What they are looking for is a shelter, and they can go a long time without eating anything.

You need to do more than interior detailing your vehicle cabin to get these cockroaches out; however, searching for missing bread crumbs or biscuit crumbs is what can be done by any one of us.

Once your vehicle is cleaned up, you can also consider to buy cockroach bait.

Place them under the car seats and in the corners of the trunk. This will give cockroaches the possible food and water they need, but with the poison that may kill them eventually.

While it’s possibly still early before the infestation starts, it is usually recommended to send for a professional service to purge, clean and sanitize your vehicle to find out how bad the infestation possibly is.

Don’t let cockroaches take over our vehicles!

Spotting one cockroach is the first sign of a cockroach infestation.

Have you dealt with odours from cigarette smoke to bodily fluids, including, but not limited to, vomit, blood, mucus, dog faeces, and urine of your kids?

How about leaks around doors and left your windows open in rain storms?

Or worst still forgotten groceries under seats for weeks, and experienced the nauseating realisation that a mouse has died somewhere inside my car.

It all stinks, but it all can be cleaned up.

Air fresheners are nice, but they only cover up the stink. To get rid of a car smell, you need to get at the source, and that source is usually in the fabric itself.

1. Cigarette Smell

Cigarette smoke isn’t only stinky, it’s also quite sticky in that it forms a resin on surfaces. That resin is called tar, and though it’s not the same stuff that’s used to pave roads, it does share a couple of similarities. The first step to removing this smell is to stop smoking in the car. Next, open all the doors and windows on a nice, warm, windy day. Then go over every surface with a 50/50 water and vinegar solution. That should be able to cut through the resin. If you have trouble, add a couple of drops of dish soap to the mix. Allow to dry completely before closing the doors.

2. Mildew

Another common car smell is caused by the fact that our cars drive through all kinds of weather. Car designers do a pretty good job, initially, with keeping the rain out of our cars. But a small bit of damage to a seal or one open window forgotten in a rain storm could mean that you have potential for mould growth. The best way to deal with this situation is to remove floor mats, soak up excess water, extract it from carpets and interior fabrics with a wet/dry vacuum, and set up a fan to keep air moving with all the doors open. If the mildew has already done its damage, then you are going to have to do some shampooing. You could use a commercial product or the homemade recipe listed below.

3. Food

Food smells aren’t difficult to remove. The wiser among us probably have rules against eating in their cars. First of all, if you’re driving, it’s dangerous and might be illegal. But secondly, it’s almost inevitable that you are going to drip or spill something. If you are hoping to trade that car in at some point, you are screwing yourself. Very often food smells go beyond drips and spills. More often it is related to an abundance of fast food wrappers, some of which might contain half-eaten sandwiches, a passed-over French fry, long-languishing lettuce, the gnawed-on bones of a not-so-recently-fried chicken. Look under your seats. You need to throw that stuff away! Good grief.

4. Leaky Organism

Accidents happen, especially if you are the owner of a leaky Labrador, an intoxicated roommate, or a human child. Bodily liquids like urine, vomit, mucus, blood, and faeces are potent pollutants that will sour the interior of any automobile. Besides their potential for infection and unavoidable ick-factor, they are also notoriously difficult to clean. You need to remove any solids and soak that stuff up right away. Absorbent powder is helpful in this kind of situation, but you could use paper towels, kitty litter, and/or baking soda if they are handy. If the liquid has dried, then you will need to scrape up the dried matter, rehydrate with water and vinegar, and extract with a wet/dry vacuum.

5. New Car Smell

New car smells are sort of poisonous; it is not something to be idolized in the form of a scented tree. Those so called “new car smells” are called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), and they are the same smells common in refinished rooms and new houses. Carpet glue, chemicals from making vinyl, drying paints, and hardening plastics all do something called off-gassing. You really don’t want to breathe that stuff; it’s one of the things that causes sick building syndrome, and it is potentially carcinogenic.

If you’ve got a particularly potent car smell that is biological in origin, you should consider an enzymatic cleaner. I first heard about them when watching a documentary about crime-scene clean-up. If anyone knows how to get rid of car smells, it’s them! The cleaners use a combination of enzymes from bacteria that can break down starches, proteins, and fats. It’s those types of things that keep doors sticking around your car. In fact, Amazon sells Greenwald’s cleaner in a handy kit.

6. Gasoline Smell

If you start to notice a faint scent of gasoline in your car and you haven’t been spilling it on yourself, you should really bring your car into the mechanic as soon as you can. You probably have a leak somewhere in your fuel system. Obviously, a gas leak has the potential to be dangerous in that it could cause your car to explode and kill you and everyone you love in a fiery ball of death. But it’s also polluting, albeit on a small scale, and a waste of gasoline—which never seems to get cheaper. Petroleum fumes can also give you headaches and cause dizziness. So, too, can the fumes that leak from an old or damaged exhaust pipe. Exhaust fumes contain CO, or carbon monoxide, which can even kill you in high enough concentrations. Just bring it in and get it fixed!

Ever since, we started Anti-Pest BioFumigation services; a lot of our industry peers start following suit. And in EAD, we got a lot of drivers asking – is the solution you are using safe for my kids? We will elaborate the type of chemical presently use in the market for your reference.

There are many roach control products sold, including bait, gel, granule, and aerosol spray formulations. When using these chemical products, take precautions to minimize human, pet, and environmental exposure. The information below will help you understand the risks associated with the active ingredients in these products.

According to our competitive analysis, we concluded that most of our industry peers uses an insecticide by the name of “ICE-PRO Fumigator”; the active ingredients of ICE PRO Fumigator are Pyrethroids.

Pyrethroid pesticides are applied as perimeter barrier sprays; they are found to be in high toxicity to the small invertebrates that serve as an essential part of the food web for fish and other aquatic animals.

In response to this environmental impact, in August 2012, the US EPA required manufacturers to revise the Directions for Use on labels for pyrethroid pesticide products to reduce ecological exposures through runoff and drift.

When safety is concerned, EAD places absolute priority. The solution we used is proprietary to us and 100% organic. We have our material safety data sheet in our showroom which you can refer to anytime. Our interior sanitisation solutions are also Singapore General Hospital Certified.
