When we ended 2019 on a high footnote, none of us were expecting a calamity of this scale to dawn upon us. While we have Bill Gates who had been warning we are ill-prepared for the next pandemic since 2015, the global weakness is exposed to its core when it really happened.

And almost 6 months since the outbreak of Covid-19; it has claimed more than 400,000 lives and infected more than 8million people. It has put every human being on Earth on a course to change our way of living; never will we be the same again. The COVID-19 pandemic has left us with an unpredictable and fluid situation ahead. We are entrenched in a new perspective in how we are looking at our transportation mode.

The typical family car interior has a volume of about 100 cubic feet, a 10th the size of a bedroom. And we might cram four, or sometimes five, people into that small space. It’s impossible to social distance.

A simple scenario: riding in car for 72 minutes with an infected passenger who seems fine other than coughing every few minutes. [credits to https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/04/22/coronavirus-car-protect-yourself-column/5166146002/]

coronavirus-accumulation-in-cars

When the windows are closed, SARS-CoV-2 (in fine aerosol particles) accumulates in the car cabin. With each new cough, the concentration builds up with no significant dilution happening.

While the extreme scenario of ditching our private transport is unlikely, but it is probable that the “new normal” will include a shift towards more concern about personal hygiene and in-depth cleanliness for our car.

Specifically, three factors will influence the future of car ownership — and many other industries, too.

Increase of Car Ownership

Non-car owners have a higher intention to acquire new cars, due to a lack of trust in public transportation. We believe we may see, a wave to buy a private car to avoid taking public transport. More families would acknowledge the potential hazard and would consider taking possession of a family size sedan that would fit their budget and lifestyle.

Surge in Contactless Delivery

Another side effect of the COVID-19 lockdowns is an acceleration of the trend towards contactless communication because of social distancing and the closure of physical retail premises.

This trend will persist as employees continue to work from home and less family trips are being planned. Many drivers would be concerned about potential cross contamination and is likely to minimize human contact – the challenge for our business is the provision of contactless delivery while maintaining the human touch.

Increased Awareness of Interior Cabin Sanitization

The knee jerk effect during the initial phase was a surge in cabin sanitization services. However, we are indeed at war now against an invisible and persistent enemy that will continue to plague us until an effective vaccine is developed and globally distributed.  This is the time for drivers to make structural changes in their cleaning schedule because the world has fundamentally changed and there is no turning back.

The demand of a more efficient and tested methods for sanitization would rise; EA Detailer has partnered with ERST [https://www.erst-project.de/] – a German company which specialize in the production and development of surface coatings with a functional long-term effect, cleaning and disinfecting products

We offer solutions to the causes of prevailing problems that have a long-term effect and thus provide the user of our services with a smooth daily practice. In our company, we fulfill these tasks together as one unit in order to address the associated challenges and constant changes in a coordinated manner. We actively determine the future through personal commitment and the individual performance of each and every employee, thus sustainably bringing real value to our customers.

Pickup, delivery or Tabao? It’s a question Singaporean have grown accustomed to answering for food delivery and groceries during the coronavirus pandemic. It also might be something they’re asked when detailing their vehicle.

The Covid-19 crisis has upended auto detailing current modus, and we don’t think they will ever be the same again. It is pertinent that we adapt our business strategies and invest in new digital sales tools as consumers’ demand more online and personalized services.

For digital, this whole disruptive period with corona is an inflection point from which there’s no turning back. What that means for consumers is being able to choose how much or how little of the process they want to conduct online. That includes scheduling an appointment or delivery of a vehicle to appraising the paintwork.

More importantly, it should result in less, if any, time waiting at workshop and flexible options such as having the vehicle picked up or delivered – It’s a more flexible process that doesn’t have to be conducted during traditional business hours.

The coronavirus pandemic has been an accelerant to online sales for the industry, which has been reluctant to adopt such processes due to fear of disrupting their profitable physical operations.

The Anticipated Changes

That doesn’t mean physical workshop won’t be needed going forward. It’ll just be different, including new sanitization processes and a larger combination of online and in-person sales.

The bar has now been raised for any company that wants to perform in this marketplace. We will need first-class digital capability, a safe environment for our customers and a safe environment for our associates. – That is the Holy Grail going forward

We believe the majority of our customers want to visit our showrooms and witness their vehicles being treated. But in many cases, they will do the majority of their shopping online, they may even narrow down the exact service they want prior to coming to the store, but they want to set an appointment, drop the vehicle and make sure they like it.

About 15% of EA Detailer’s sales include delivering vehicles to a customer’s home. And this will evolve over time, more people will take advantage of this.

Online Engagement

We expect the coronavirus will have a long-lasting impact on our industry and consumer purchasing behaviour, particularly online processes.

Most of the customers have been comfortable with it in other parts of their lives, but in auto detailing they haven’t been as comfortable with it, as times goes by they will certainly be more comfortable with it today.

Our focus is on providing a process that “moves customers seamlessly between the online world and offline world.”

This pandemic has propelled our entire company into the digital space. And while online sales aren’t completely supplementing the loss of traditional sales due to the coronavirus pandemic. But we believe the traditional model may be fading or diminishing. Floor traffic won’t go away 100%, but online is just an easier process for everybody involved.

Online Engagement

After three months of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to officially announce the launch on 15th June 2020. We wanted to make the new website faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly.

As a market leader, it’s important for us to make information regarding our thought leadership, services and trends easily accessible for our current and prospective clients. We endeavour to provide our client with the most accurate, up-to-date information and share our knowledge and expertise in the field of auto detailing.

Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors an easier way to learn about EA Detailer’s services and to browse information based on their own choice. The new website gives better access to How We Work, Case Studies, Expertise & Services, Blog and a more direct manner in communicating with us.

The perfect shine is the Holy Grail of the automotive appearance industry.

For over a century, professionals have sought a magical solution ― a bullish, long-lasting shine product that is quick and easy to apply and will repel dirt, environmental contaminants, and rain so the vehicle has the best protection on the market.

Given the array of kaleidoscope of products invading our visual sense, what is the difference between finishing products? How far have we come in the world of “coatings”?

Essentially, nano-technology in the detailing industry utilizes a 9th century Mesopotamian trick. A trick in which pottery-makers created a metallic nano glaze made from copper, silver salts, and oxides that created a glittering effect on pottery that up through the Renaissance, made it distinctive for its ancient, shimmering luster. The term “coating” is nothing more than a new term to identify these incredibly durable polymers. Because that’s all these nano coatings are, polymers.

Known as “Surface Science”, products now allow the transfer of particles from one surface to the other so that the nano coating becomes inseparable from the car’s paint surface. Automotive coating manufacturers claim their formulas “bond” chemically and physically to the paint surface, however, all bond loosens over time!

Is hardness the only pinnacle of a good coating?

Every Automotive coating manufacturers has been boasting their SGS Certification on hardness. But think about it – the body of the car flexes as it drives, as the heat and cold play their part on the chemistry of the metal (hot metal can bend more while cold metal is more stiff). When coated with glass and ceramics, two very rigid materials that lack the ability to be flexible, it wouldn’t take long for the coating to crack and break.

And does the warranty works?

Those 7-year warranty coatings are only valid if you can verify you’ve reapplied the product every year or two and washed the car once a month. One of the big reasons these products work so effectively is the amount of prep required to apply the coating. After washing, claying, and buffing the car, you’re often required to wipe down the entire surface with some alcohol based cleaner. This intensive prep period is highly effective in removing all contaminants and oils from the surface to allow the coating to bond to the paint as best as it can.

What is the downside?

Before you can even apply the coating, the surface must be 100% free of surface blemishes, which applies to even brand new vehicles. A multi-stage paint correction involves washing the car, claying, buffing, and keeping it pristine while applying the coating. That last step is particularly difficult for anyone who isn’t working in a clean indoor facility.

Nearly all of these coatings use extremely harsh chemicals that when you open the bottle, smell like a nice sampling of jet fuel. After speaking with many detailers who specialize in applying many of these coatings, they mention how they need to take frequent breaks to refrain from going light-headed. These harsh chemicals contain high levels of VOC’s.

Our Ceramic coating does not only form in a structured atomic manner; it is also flexible. It offers the gloss that will make your car gleamed while flexible enough to bounce off the contaminants and allows your vehicle to flex. Most importantly, we care for our Auto-Artisans. Ceramic Coating is the only coating in the local market that is VOCs-Free; it does not pose any health hazard at all.

As the leading Auto Detailer in Singapore, EA Detailer started an exclusive partnership with Sonax to offer the world’s most powerful ceramic coating. Top 5 reasons why Ceramic Paint Protection Coating is a must have for the discerning automobile enthusiasts who want their cars feeling like it never left the showroom .

5 Benefits of Ceramic paint coating for cars

1. Best Car Paint Protection

Our ceramic coating provides a resilient, flexible protective surface to the car’s body, shielding against all forms of foreign matter which might compromise the integrity of the paintwork. On the daily commute, a car will be subjected to attacks to its body, from debris, UV damage and foreign contaminants. Having a ceramic coating ensures that the paintwork of the car is sealed in a protective layer that prolong the longevity of the car’s paintwork.

2. Durability of Ceramic Coating

With our state of the art equipment and superior technique, we ensure that the coating will be bonded tightly to the car and will not be affected by most external forces. This is in sharp contrast to more traditional vehicle coatings such as wax, which wears off when exposed to environmental elements and foreign contaminants

3. Hydrophobic Effect and Resistance to Dirt

No one car is perfectly smooth, polishing and applying a coat to any one car is a science. The more uneven or perforated a surface is, the easier it is for dirt to find pockets and pits to cling on to. After polishing and claying of the surface, we apply a layer of ceramic coating which works at a molecular level to ensure that that dirt that stick to the surface of the car can be easily removed. Most surface contaminants and dirt will skid off, leaving the car in showroom condition for longer periods of time.

4. Elimination of Constant Re-application

Unlike traditional methods of getting your car “coated”, a single application of Ceramic coating and proper care and maintaining, Ceramic Coating will withstand a long duration of time and EA Detailer is proud to claim that our ceramic coating has a 10-year warranty that it will not spoil your paintwork

5. Time and Cost – Effective

Through this article, EA Detailer will give you the best paint protection at a special price. That’s savings in terms of money and time.

What are you waiting for? For the aspiring car enthusiast or the busy family man who wants the best hassle-free protection for our beloved vehicles. Make an appointment with EA Detailer now.

Amidst the array of multiple coatings flooding the market, the choice of selection becomes a journey into the abyss of trial and error. Especially when everyone is boasting that their product quality is superior than the rest.

It seems inevitably that the harder the coating; the better it is. But hey, doesn’t hardness also equate to brittleness?

Conventional formulations that build extremely hard and inflexible networks are not suitable to offer optimal paint protection. In practice, such layers hard as glass have proved to be breakable, as thermal influences and impacting particles can quickly cause cracks and brittleness.

“Sonax CC36 Ceramic Coating” was especially designed for use in professional vehicle valeting to protect new or professionally restored paintwork surfaces for a long period.

Sonax R&D team developed an especially advanced long-term paintwork protection. It flexibly adapts to the paintwork surface and lets dirt particles simply bounce off – “The force of flexibility”. Additionally, less dirt particles are more easily washed off – that is what Sonax calls “easy-to-clean effect”.

Sonax CC36 is a dense network of modified siliceous nanoparticles that develop a particularly resistant protective layer – just as a protecting “second skin” that acts as a flexible shield against climatic and environmental influences. The nanoparticles reactively couple with the paint structure and the surface becomes highly consolidated in covalent bonding.

Introduction to EAD Paint Protection Coating

Once a vehicle exits the manufacturing plant, the paintwork is subjected to harsh conditions. Through regular usage, it will endure scratches from flying debris and other environmental factors.

Tree sap, acidic rain and bird droppings eats away the exterior paintwork through chemical reactions. To remove such surface contaminants, the vehicle should be cleaned regularly, but frequent maintenance will also cause the paint coat to get thinner and eventually corrode.

To retain the original paint finish, many vehicle owners are looking for the most reliable sealing products. There are many to choose from, which can be quite confusing.

These substances eventually evaporate and can be removed easily with a wet cloth. They are prone against external environmental damage. Also, the chemicals from these products may be risk-factors for discoloration, can corrode the painted finish, or even cause water marks.

Other factors that make paint coat thinner and corrode each time are washing, cutting, polishing, weather, UV solar rays, and other things. Therefore, its original color is not long-lasting. Due all the various elements, a weather worn and damaged paint surface will devalue the vehicle and affect its beauty. Getting a new paint job then becomes a necessity under these conditions.

This is the reason that many vehicle owners try to find Paint Protection Coating in protecting their vehicle paintwork and condition. Till 16 Jan 2017, EA Detailer have served 2,556 drivers to get their cars coated; we have two types of Paint Protection Coating

Alright, you got your new car. It is in lime green (Hey, you are a free spirit); or maybe you wanna to exhibit your passion for life (Fiery Red). Then now, you wonder should you go to those guys that do car paint protection? You have just been out of pocket for a new car, you are reluctant to spend more money. The devil and angel in you start tearing you apart.

Yet, let’s us tell you like most things, prevention is better than cure.

A good paint protection system should protect your car long-term. However, if you haven’t protected your car from day one – a good system should be able to improve you car considerably, with a notable difference and also continue to further protect you car the from the day you have applied the paint protection product.

Paint protection from car detailers are expensive. Why?

Simply because adds true value to the buyer (and to the vehicle) – and we aren’t talking about just a better shine. A good paint protection application gives an incredible glass shine and maintains the value of your new car. These are the reasons why people are simply prepared to pay an average of a $1000 for good paint protection. It also means less waxing and easier cleaning of your car when it gets dirty. Saving time and superior paint protection means more savings in the long run.

But does that means that all you have to do is to coat the car once and you can leave it in the hands of God to make it eternally shiny?

NO.

The importance of taking proper care of the car, i.e. washing and detailing is cannot be stressed enough; using reputable detailers is imperative. The golden rule of thumb will be to treat your car paintwork like you would your skin. If it’s good for your skin, it’s good for the car and if it won’t hurt your skin, it won’t damage your car paintwork.

In short, you get what you pay for and choosing the correct place to wash your car should be based on the amount of time spent cleaning your car properly and safely.

One simply cannot have a product that one simply wipes on within 30 minutes and is expected to protect the paint effectively. Paint Protection is a professional application and surfaces to be protected have to be prepared. DIY Kits of the same products professional dealers and detailers use begin at $160. The dealers’ price is around $1000 (for exactly the same product). More than 80% of protectants on the market today are of a limited basic Compound/core ingredient, be it wax, teflon, polymer or silicone and is just Rebadged, repacked or marketed differently.

The most superior product known through trial and testing, are products with Glass Plexin. Glassplexin has the properties of glass. It electromagnetically blends with the paint molecules and becomes part of the paint – unlike other products which simply lie on top. It is a silicate ion which has a negative charge and the properties of liquid glass, and is exclusively formulated to prepare, polish, seal and protect the paint finishes. Glass plexin repels water, and therefore repels grime and contaminants.

Getting your new car can be a magical experience; however most of us feels the erosion of motivation to maintain as vehicle ages. The early response to “Yeah, I wanna to keep it shining and swee-swee” becomes a chores. Many drivers hence take up paint protection / glass coating in the belief that a layer of initial protection will last you forever. But then again, nothing lasts forever except – DeBeers Diamond.

Here a few facts you need to know. These simple facts will save you time, money and your paintwork in the long term.

Fact 1: Not all paint protection products are the same.

There are may paint protection products out there varying in price, and of course quality. However, price alone should not be the deciding factor when buying a product to improve your car’s appearance. What you want to achieve, should be the deciding factor. A product that protects from bird droppings, UV Rays, acid rain, road salt, bug residue is obviously worth a few dollars more to you, then one that just gives a temporary shine. Furthermore, different products offer different degrees of lasting shine. A product that offers a long shine, and requires less maintenance, will also be worth a few dollars more to you, we are sure.

Most protectants on the market today, offer only some or limited amount of protection from the above mentioned elements and most do not offer lasting shine without reapplication. *(more than 6 months)

Fact 2: Prevention is better than cure, but it is not too late for older cars.

Like most things, prevention is better than cure. A good paint protection system should protect your car long-term. However, if you haven’t protected your car from day one – a good system should be able to improve you car considerably, with a notable difference and also continue to further protect you car the from the day you have applied the paint protection product.

Fact 3: Car Waxing is so yesteryear. They have been around as long as Henry Ford invented the T-Model.

Car wax can be great to offer great instant shine, but there are a few drawbacks the average consumer may not be aware of. Firstly, car wax is called car wax, because it is simply, and predominantly made of “wax” – there is no disputing that. Everybody knows that wax also melts with heat. Car wax used on our cars is no different. Excess heat on paintwork that has been waxed, results in the wax softening, therefore loosing shine and more prone to entrapping contaminants. Waxing is great for show cars, but show cars rarely sit in the hot sun all day, day after day.

Wax, by its very natural state, does not adhere well to the car (in fact there is little that can adhere well to wax). Have you ever tried to stick anything to waxy surface? Similarly wax will eventually wash off your car – leaving you with little protection.

Fact 4: A simple bird dropping can damage your paintwork.

Singaporean birds are well-known for taking cars as their private lavatory. You car is being damaged now, and probably don’t even realise it. Many people know that UV rays can damage cars paintwork – but this can take years. More immediate danger are bird droppings – which can damage paint work within a few days. Bird droppings come from the digestive system of birds, and without going into too much biological detail, droppings can contain high levels of acid – acid of course damages paintwork.

Fact 5: There good reasons why prestigious car dealers use a certain products.

Paint Protection from car detailers is relatively expensive.

Fact 6: A car’s paintwork and appearance will assist in maintaining its value and resale value.

A well-maintained car, with mirror finish paint, will undoubtedly increase its resale value. You will also save time and money now. A good paint protection on you can means you will save time washing your car, as dirt and grime should wash away easily….. and of course no waxing is required, to maintain its appearance.

How much should you pay?

To a certain extent – you get what you pay for.

One simply cannot have a product that one simply wipes on within 30 minutes and is expected to protect the paint effectively. Paint Protection is a professional application and surfaces to be protected have to be prepared, hence the reason for attention to detail and know how, correct use of tools and products.

EA Detailer use only the most superior product. Our Paint Protection electromagnetically blends with the paint molecules and becomes part of the paint – unlike other products which simply lie on top. It is a silicate ion which has a negative charge and the properties of liquid glass, and is exclusively formulated to prepare, polish, seal and protect the paint finishes. Our Paint Protection repels water, and therefore repels grime and contaminants.

We have 2 kinds of Paint Protection Coating – EAD Diamond Foundation Coating & EAD Titanium Coating; both boasting excellent quality and durability. Both coatings are- scientifically back-up and certified by TUV Gmbh- ISO 9001:2008 Certificate Reg No. 12-100-23160/03 TMS- ISO 14001:2004 Certificate Reg No. 12-104-23160/01 TMS- Approved by Mercedes Benz AG- Approved by BMW Group- Approved by GM GmbH

9H/10H hardness is a rating on the Pencil Hardness Test, commonly used by manufacturers of clear and pigmented surface coatings. The Pencil Hardness test is used to determine the scratch resistance of a coating surface by using pencils to scratch the surface and rate the scratch resistance in relation to that pencils hardness and other materials of similar hardness.

Is the Pencil Hardness Test standardized

There are two different standards used in the pencil hardness test: ASTM D3363 and JIS K-5600-5-4.  Both require a different set of procedures and initial surface for coating to be applied to. This will allow various coatings, cured at different heats, to be tested without any other variables interfering.

The downfall with Pencil Hardness Test

The biggest concern with this testing method is the lack of control and standards.  Even when following a basic outline for standardized testing, different companies follow varied procedures that can skew the results of the hardness test.  One method is to lower the gram load weight of the pencil hardness tester.  The less pressure used in the tester, the less likely the surface is to scratch. This allows a tester to up the rating on their pencil hardness scale. This tactic is not outlined in the standardized testing, so it can go undetected by customers.  When choosing coatings based off the pencil hardness test, always look deeper into the testing methods as you are not always comparing “apples to apples.”

How does it apply to car paint protection coating?

Many brands boast 9H hardness, but you have to first know that the “H’ here is referring to pencil hardness, imagine using an array of pencils, small lines are drawn across the coating surface using graded pencils of increasing levels of hardness. No scratch is a pass and you move on to a harder grade. A standard pencil is graded at 2 HB in the US , a super hard technical drawing pencil is 7H, and the hardest is 10H. Coatings which are so hard that even the 10H pencil won’t scratch them receive a 10H rating to designate their hardness.

Is the coating force resistance?

Anything can be broken if it encounters enough force. However, EAD Diamond Foundation Coating are designed to increase your breakage resistance to an exceptional degree. Only the very hardest, most severe blows may damage your actual paint work. In some events or accidents, an EAD Diamond Foundation Coating will completely absorb the shock and perfectly protect your car surface – exactly as it was designed to do.

Getting scratches on your car’s paint job tends to be a day-to-day occurrence, but for some, it’s a very huge concern. Many people fear having their car scratched for good reason. Your car is an expensive purchase and want to keep it in the best shape possible. To save your car’s skin, what you’ll need is a good protective coating to keep that surface smooth and shiny.

One of the few types of Paint Protection Coating that works well for your car’s surface: Glass coating and Ceramic coating. We often get asked what is the difference between these two types of Paint Protection Coatings?

 The Technical Details

When people think of glass, they usually think of the transparent materials found as windows in buildings and cars. However, strictly speaking the term glass describes a state of matter where the particles within a material are randomly arranged. The definition of glass given by the ASTM (American Society of the International Association for Testing and Materials) which describes glass as an “inorganic, amorphous, product of a rapidly cooled melt”. By this definition, rapidly-cooled metals can also be said to be glassy. Hence, terms such as glassy, amorphous and vitreous tend to describe a material with randomly-arranged atomic structure. Did that bore you? We almost fell asleep.

 The really Technical Details

There are some structural differences between glass and ceramic on an atomic scale, even though they can have exactly the same composition. For example, silica glass has the same composition as quartz (crystallized silica). However, in glass, the atoms are arranged dynamically; whereas silica crystals have a very ordered structure. It is possible to turn a glass into a ceramic; by heating it up. This allows rearrangement from a random to an ordered structure and an ordered structure is more stable than a disordered one.

So how are they the same?

While each Paint Protection Coating has its own characteristics, there are many similarities that can be applied across the board regardless of brand. Glass Coatings and Ceramic Coatings are the latest and most revolutionary way to protect the paint on your vehicle. Through the use nanotechnology, these coatings bind to the surface creating an extremely durable and protective layer. These coatings separate your vehicle’s paint and interior surfaces from the harsh elements of the environment. Both types of coating actually bond to your paintwork so cannot be removed by ordinary means, for example, washing your car.

So which coating should I choose?

In ceramic coating, its compounds protect your car against weather, bird droppings, scratches, dust, spills and other things that ordinary wax usually cannot fix, as well has having a durability that lasts for 4-6 months. A ceramic-coating process required heating in order to make sure the bonding is complete. It is in fact a 70s technology.

In glass coating, it bonds to your vehicle’s paint on a molecular level almost immediately upon application. This ensures that the car’s paint remain insulated against chemical attacks from all forms of environmental pollutants. Professional applicators have mostly converted to glass coating because of its durability and ease of application.

Choosing between the two is not too difficult if you know what you want.

If you prefer the quick and easy way, seek durability, glass-like shine and more protection for your paint, you might want to try ceramic-coating products. If you are willing to spend more and are willing to wait a bit longer for the coating process than a glass coating is for you.

Contrary to marketing myth, all coatings have a life span and eventually need to be reapplied. The right way to ensure the lasting effect is to engage professional detailer who possess in-depth technical know how to treat your vehicle right.
