How much do you understand about how infections can possibly happen inside a car interior?

Being an enclosed area, our car interiors can contain and help spread viruses that cause infectious diseases like Covid-19.

When an infected person coughs or exhales, small droplets from the nose or mouth land on surfaces in the car. Coronaviruses survive on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Other passengers, who can be family or friends can get infected when they come in contact with the surfaces of the small droplets, containing the virus, and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.

To maintain virus-free, clean and ensure ultimate safety during every trip, Erostitzer Self Disinfecting Coating service is introduced to ease this process in killing bacteria, germs and virus on various surfaces parts within your car interior.

At EA Detailer, we care for the safety of everyone. We are also pleased to announce that we are extending a 20% off on this Self Disinfecting Coating service and a free gift selection (out of 6 choices); valid from 1 August to 31 August 2020.

Earlier in 2020, Singapore has formed a new multi-agency task force has been formed to raise the standards of cleanliness and public hygiene in Singapore as a whole nation.

The SG Clean Taskforce aims to ensure the cleanliness of public spaces, encourage good personal hygiene and adjust social norms to reduce the spread of diseases. 5 personal hygiene habits have been emphasised on the new normal daily basis to bring the cleanliness and public hygiene to the next level to stop the spread of Covid-19 disease.

  1. Use Tissue Paper Whenever Sneezing or Coughing and Dispose of it Properly
  2. Use Serving Spoons When Having Group Meals
  3. Eat on Trays
  4. Keep Public Toilets Clean and Dry
  5. Wash Hands with Soup Regular and Take Temperature Daily

Let’s take a step further.

Environmental contamination is an important factor in the transmission of the virus, according to the latest research. But the virus is also easily removed by disinfection, underscoring the importance of cleaning high-touch public areas.

What we hear about coronavirus prevention so far has to do with good personal hygiene, such as frequent and proper handwashing. But what about our transportation options; especially for car owners and their family? It’s a new normal knowledge to know the importance in disinfecting car interior and keep it virus-free.

At EA Detailer, we have different levels of Car Interior Sanitization Treatments. Due to the recent worldwide pandemic situation, we have redesigned, upgraded and improved the sanitization process for car cabin interiors.

What’s more exciting is that, we also have introduced a new service “Erstotizer Self Disinfecting Coating” to ease the worries of car owners and their family. It is a longer-term Anti-Bacterial, Anti-Virus Clear Surface Coating – lasting to 24 months.

Protect yourself and your passengers through good car sanitation practices today! – whether you drive for personal or ride-sharing purposes.

You have been reading the rampant post about steam cleaning by autodetailers claiming it is effective against Covid-19. Before you send your vehicle to steam every surface, let’s find out some facts versus fiction.

If you didn’t stock up on bleach wipes and cleaning sprays before the big rush of panic buying, you’re probably frantically Googling “Does Steam Kill Covid?”. If you’re looking for other alternative cleaning solutions, one idea that’s been circulating online lately is steamers.

Some companies that make steamers claim that a blast with a steamer on soft surfaces such as upholstery can kill up to 99.9 percent of pathogens—which, for comparison, is the same track record claimed by many makers of bleach wipes and disinfectant sprays. Companies don’t go as far as to say that steamers can work on hard surfaces or take out SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 (aka novel coronavirus), but this does leave us wondering about utilizing this common tool for virus protection backup.

Using a steamer seems like a great cleaning solution if you don’t have disinfectants handy or even if you prefer to clean your place without chemicals, but can steam really kill viruses?

Actually, under certain circumstances, yes. “We use steam under pressure to kill viruses in autoclaves,” says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. (An autoclave is a medical device that uses steam to sterilize equipment and other objects.) “Steam is how we sterilize medical equipment that we use in the laboratory,” says Dr. Schaffner.

However, that steam is used in a controlled setting under pressure (which allows the steam to reach higher temperatures), and it’s unclear if steam would be as effective against SARS-CoV-2 or any other virus on a surface like your vehicle dashboard. “I’m not sure whether the time-temperature relationships that you would use when you’re steaming a car interior would kill the virus,” says Dr. Schaffner. There’s no research on steam being used this way but, in theory, it might work, he adds.

As far as what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has to say, the organization recommends that soft surfaces like carpets, rugs, and drapes be cleaned with basic soap and hot water. And for other frequently touched surfaces, it’s suggested that you disinfect these using a diluted bleach solution, an alcohol solution with at least 70 percent alcohol, and products that are on the Singapore Government’s disinfectant list.

If you’re interested in using a steamer to clean surfaces, Ruth Collins, Ph.D., an assistant professor of molecular medicine at Cornell University, recommends this hack to up your coronavirus protection: Lather up your surfaces with soap and hot water, and follow that with a good blast of steam to kill germs. While this coronavirus disinfecting method hasn’t been backed up by research, Collins points out that soap is known to dissolve the outer layer of SARS-CoV-2 and kill the virus. High temperatures can do the same. Together, she says, it should kill SARS-CoV-2, but again this isn’t foolproof and shouldn’t take the place of CDC-approved cleaning solutions.

Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses, meaning they have a protective membrane of fat, explains Collins. But that fat is “sensitive to detergent,” which is why the soap is a good partner, she says.

Steam may be effective on its own, but adding the soap is like extra insurance, says Collins. “If you put a thin film of soapy water down first and then come in with steam, you’ll have maximum penetration,” she says.

So, should you use steam to kill viruses? Experts are split: Some believe it works as an addition to other cleaners such as soap and water, while others don’t think steam can be as effective at killing viruses in real life as it is in a controlled lab setting. It’s important to reiterate that using steam as a way to kill viruses is not currently a disinfectant method approved.

That said, if you want to give steaming a try, there’s no harm in trying this. Just know that it may not be 100 percent effective.

Car grooming / detailing is necessary and highly recommended to keep your car looking fresh out of the showroom as regular as possible. Such service helps in reducing wear and tear of the external and internal components of your car. Periodic washing and detailing will help keep your car neat, especially during those special occasions.

2 options are generally available for car owners like yourself : DIY or Professional help.

Which option would you go for?

DIY CAR GROOMING

DIY car grooming is you can save money by hands-on yourself. Buying the necessary products and spending X number of hours on your vehicle is the general basis to carry out the process.

Professional services tend to cost more as you get more specialized grooming services ; inclusive of products that are only available for professional detailers purchase and usage.

Keeping your car neat, and properly cleaned up constantly will be a day-to-day job and the most basic practice. Anyone can perform basic exterior and interior cleaning, which is extremely helpful for keeping your car looking sharp at all times. You can even learn some basic detailing techniques while you are at it!

A more involved experience.

This is perhaps the most compelling reason why car enthusiasts stick with DIY grooming. Grooming your car by yourself is a very involving experience, just like performing other maintenance by dipping your hands wet into a basin of water. Nothing is more intimate than doing the work needed for your car with your own hands. It simply enriches the experience of owning a car.

PROFESSIONAL CAR GROOMING

The main selling point for getting professional car grooming / detailing services is to have your vehicle being worked on by specialists. People who work in car detailing companies are trained in washing and detailing cars. They are capable of handling with care, and they can spot, found the cleanliness possibility for both inside and outside of your vehicle.

At car detailing premises, you can see right away an array of tools inside. Examples are high-pressure water nozzles, waxes, carpet cleaners, vacuums, and buff machines etc. These tools help in providing a more extensive grooming for all parts of your vehicle. It would be very impractical to own these tools, unless you own a bunch of cars and you want to maintain them all by yourself. Also, it takes skill and experience to be able to handle and utilise specialized equipment as such.

Time savings on Grooming

This is one of the most valuable perks that you can get for professional grooming services. While you can always do the grooming yourself, it consumes a lot of time. This can be quite impractical if you are working on a tight schedule. In addition, you will more likely than not spend more time completing the task than professional groomers would. Getting professional car grooming is very convenient. The pros will do the work for you while you wait or do other important things.

In conclusion, there is no right or wrong option when it comes to car grooming. You can always learn how to groom the car yourself, getting your hands dirty from time to time like any real car guy would. At the same time, you can always ask the help of professionals if you either have little time in your hands or you want your car to receive some extra TLC.

WHY ARE THERE COCKROACHES IN OUR CARS?

Do you get the terrorising feeling or rather disgusting experience when you spot a cockroach in your vehicle? Well, most of us do.

Most of us do not frequently hear about cockroaches living in vehicles, so the natural thought that goes into one’s mind will be that “Nah, there’s no cockroaches in my vehicle. I don’t even eat in it!”

But when a cockroach is spotted especially when driving along a road or even the expressway, our thoughts changes.

Let’s stop and think – Where are cars commonly parked?

Right, our vehicles will be parked near or under trees, beside drains, rubbish chutes, manholes and sewages. These are hot spots that cockroaches and bugs are usually lurking around due to the dark, humid and cooling environment. We definitely would not know when they decide to hop onto your car.

Other than eating in the vehicle, food takeaways and irregular cleaning plays a part as well; not to forget there might be possible food remains in our shoe soles which we may stepped on before getting into our vehicle again.

Can cockroaches be get rid of from our vehicles? Are more of them living in our vehicles? What is next to be done?

Now, some of us might spot a cockroach in our vehicle and decides what’s needed is just to do some cleaning.

Do you know cockroaches can burrow into small places that you might never notice even while cleaning? They’ll reproduce under your seat, in the car frame, in the speakers and other small, dark and cramped places. There are still areas in a vehicle interior cabin that we can’t even reach. Moreover, in a clean car, these cockroaches and bugs will not vacate and disappear on their own, regardless the weather is hot or cold outside. What they are looking for is a shelter, and they can go a long time without eating anything.

You need to do more than interior detailing your vehicle cabin to get these cockroaches out; however, searching for missing bread crumbs or biscuit crumbs is what can be done by any one of us.

Once your vehicle is cleaned up, you can also consider to buy cockroach bait.

Place them under the car seats and in the corners of the trunk. This will give cockroaches the possible food and water they need, but with the poison that may kill them eventually.

While it’s possibly still early before the infestation starts, it is usually recommended to send for a professional service to purge, clean and sanitize your vehicle to find out how bad the infestation possibly is.

Don’t let cockroaches take over our vehicles!

Spotting one cockroach is the first sign of a cockroach infestation.

What is Hot Water Extraction?

Hot water extraction carpet cleaning is easy to understand. First, a powerful machine heats water in the cleaning truck. Trained carpet cleaning experts use a professional hot water extraction cleaning machine to inject water and a cleaning solution into the carpet and remove dirt. The machine then extracts the solution and the hot water back out of the carpet so that it can dry quickly. While there is visible steam from the hot water, it is the water doing the cleaning, not the steam.

How is Hot Water Extraction Different from Steam Cleaning?

First of all, steam is hotter then hot water. Obviously, to get steam, the water must boil and evaporate into steam. Steam can actually set some stains in. If a cleaning agent like detergent is being used, steam cannot provide as thorough a rinse as using hot water provides. Hot water thoroughly flushes the carpet fibres and removes dirt.

Working with hot water extraction allows the team here at EA Detailer to provide exceptional cleaning that removes stains, dirt, and allergens without introducing any hazardous chemicals. It’s a service we’re more than happy to recommend to car owners, and questions concerning hot water extraction are some of the most common ones we’re asked.

That’s why we decided to put together this quick and easy guide.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=rpKzMXm0Np8

Key Benefits of Hot Water Extraction

Limits Allergens

Everything from dust to dog dander can settle in your carpet and start to irritate your allergies, but hot water extraction gets rid of them.

Kills Mold and Other Bacteria

Mold, bacteria, fungus, and dust mites can all live in your carpet, but hot water extraction kills them.

Endorsed by the IICRC

The IICRC only certifies cleaning methods that live up to the highest standards, and hot water extraction makes the grade.

Eco-Friendly

Unlike shampoo cleaning, hot water extraction uses nothing more than water and heat, making it a remarkably eco-friendly method.

If you’re not won over by the ability of hot water extraction to banish bacteria and eliminate allergens without introducing any hazardous chemicals, consider the fact that your carpets and rugs will also look better than ever.

Hot water extraction exposes the dirt and dust to exceedingly high temperatures, causing the physical bonds between dirt and carpet to loosen and dissolve. Any debris is removed completely, and you’ll be able to reach into those tricky cracks and crevices that often remain untouched by vacuum cleaners. Even hard-to-remove substances such as wax, chewing gum, and glue can be removed using hot water extraction—and the surfaces will dry far faster than they do with shampoo cleaning, since steam evaporates faster than water dries.

Hot Water Extraction is the Gold Standard interior cabin cleaning

Simply put, nothing comes close to the performance of hot water extraction. Making your car interior seats more hygienic and good-as-new, it’s an unrivalled cleaning option.

Have you dealt with odours from cigarette smoke to bodily fluids, including, but not limited to, vomit, blood, mucus, dog faeces, and urine of your kids?

How about leaks around doors and left your windows open in rain storms?

Or worst still forgotten groceries under seats for weeks, and experienced the nauseating realisation that a mouse has died somewhere inside my car.

It all stinks, but it all can be cleaned up.

Air fresheners are nice, but they only cover up the stink. To get rid of a car smell, you need to get at the source, and that source is usually in the fabric itself.

1. Cigarette Smell

Cigarette smoke isn’t only stinky, it’s also quite sticky in that it forms a resin on surfaces. That resin is called tar, and though it’s not the same stuff that’s used to pave roads, it does share a couple of similarities. The first step to removing this smell is to stop smoking in the car. Next, open all the doors and windows on a nice, warm, windy day. Then go over every surface with a 50/50 water and vinegar solution. That should be able to cut through the resin. If you have trouble, add a couple of drops of dish soap to the mix. Allow to dry completely before closing the doors.

2. Mildew

Another common car smell is caused by the fact that our cars drive through all kinds of weather. Car designers do a pretty good job, initially, with keeping the rain out of our cars. But a small bit of damage to a seal or one open window forgotten in a rain storm could mean that you have potential for mould growth. The best way to deal with this situation is to remove floor mats, soak up excess water, extract it from carpets and interior fabrics with a wet/dry vacuum, and set up a fan to keep air moving with all the doors open. If the mildew has already done its damage, then you are going to have to do some shampooing. You could use a commercial product or the homemade recipe listed below.

3. Food

Food smells aren’t difficult to remove. The wiser among us probably have rules against eating in their cars. First of all, if you’re driving, it’s dangerous and might be illegal. But secondly, it’s almost inevitable that you are going to drip or spill something. If you are hoping to trade that car in at some point, you are screwing yourself. Very often food smells go beyond drips and spills. More often it is related to an abundance of fast food wrappers, some of which might contain half-eaten sandwiches, a passed-over French fry, long-languishing lettuce, the gnawed-on bones of a not-so-recently-fried chicken. Look under your seats. You need to throw that stuff away! Good grief.

4. Leaky Organism

Accidents happen, especially if you are the owner of a leaky Labrador, an intoxicated roommate, or a human child. Bodily liquids like urine, vomit, mucus, blood, and faeces are potent pollutants that will sour the interior of any automobile. Besides their potential for infection and unavoidable ick-factor, they are also notoriously difficult to clean. You need to remove any solids and soak that stuff up right away. Absorbent powder is helpful in this kind of situation, but you could use paper towels, kitty litter, and/or baking soda if they are handy. If the liquid has dried, then you will need to scrape up the dried matter, rehydrate with water and vinegar, and extract with a wet/dry vacuum.

5. New Car Smell

New car smells are sort of poisonous; it is not something to be idolized in the form of a scented tree. Those so called “new car smells” are called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), and they are the same smells common in refinished rooms and new houses. Carpet glue, chemicals from making vinyl, drying paints, and hardening plastics all do something called off-gassing. You really don’t want to breathe that stuff; it’s one of the things that causes sick building syndrome, and it is potentially carcinogenic.

If you’ve got a particularly potent car smell that is biological in origin, you should consider an enzymatic cleaner. I first heard about them when watching a documentary about crime-scene clean-up. If anyone knows how to get rid of car smells, it’s them! The cleaners use a combination of enzymes from bacteria that can break down starches, proteins, and fats. It’s those types of things that keep doors sticking around your car. In fact, Amazon sells Greenwald’s cleaner in a handy kit.

6. Gasoline Smell

If you start to notice a faint scent of gasoline in your car and you haven’t been spilling it on yourself, you should really bring your car into the mechanic as soon as you can. You probably have a leak somewhere in your fuel system. Obviously, a gas leak has the potential to be dangerous in that it could cause your car to explode and kill you and everyone you love in a fiery ball of death. But it’s also polluting, albeit on a small scale, and a waste of gasoline—which never seems to get cheaper. Petroleum fumes can also give you headaches and cause dizziness. So, too, can the fumes that leak from an old or damaged exhaust pipe. Exhaust fumes contain CO, or carbon monoxide, which can even kill you in high enough concentrations. Just bring it in and get it fixed!

Most of us eat in our cars from time to time. This means, if you eat food in your car there is going to be some scraps falling on the seats, in between the seats and on the floor. No matter how careful you are, and if you clean up after, cockroaches can find tiny scraps of food and find a place to live in your car.

This is the main reason for roaches being in a car. They need a source of food to inhabit an area, and if they have food they will grow in numbers and become stubborn to remove. Remember, roaches always need three things to survive, food, water, and shelter. All of which they can find in and around some cars.

This is especially true in Singapore. The species of roach you find in residence of your vehicle are generally brown banded cockroach. They are small roaches; adults are approximately 1/2 inch long. Their coloring ranges from yellowish-brown to brown, and they have two longitudinal black stripes on the thoracic shield covering their heads. If you see one roach, you most likely have at least 200 more in your car.

They are persistent pests and multiply quickly. Once introduced, if no control measures are taken, they can quickly infest an entire vehicle. They nest in moist, dark areas including: Cracks and crevices in between the air-con vents, under the seats, in between the crevices which an automobile has no lack of. A combination of Singapore climate and inherent vehicle design make it the perfect place for their inhabitation.

Some facts about German Roaches

  • One female can produce up to 100,000 cockroaches in one year, the fastest of any common pest cockroach species
  • Newborn German cockroaches become adults in as little as 36 days
  • They can fit into a crack as thin as a dime
  • They eat sweets, grease, meat and garbage
  • Their lifespan is about 200 days

EA Detailer is well-known for Car Fumigation Treatment against Cockroach Infestation in Cars. We use an extract from a plant enzyme to flush out the cockroach population; the solution we are using comes with a safety data sheet which certified its safety and does not present any hazard to young kids.

Mentioning car detailing will most probably makes people respond – “Orh, car grooming lah!’ The truth is there is a fine thin line between car grooming and car detailing which set the world apart.

Google Paul Dalton, Gideon King, we have Danny Chang who is nearer to home up North. These people are the masters in car detailing. The whole process start off with ionised water which is even cleaner than our distilled water. Their rate ranges from USD800 for a simple job to USD30,000 – yup, you didn’t see that wrongly. It is USD30,000 a 5-figures service charge.

In EA Detailer, we aim to deliver a similar standard to you at a much more affordable value – just think about it this way = You are flying Business class at a economy class price.

Is Car Grooming not the same as Car Detailing?

The point of this blog post is to help some people who aren’t aware of what some of the differences are from a professional point-of-view but also to explain my point of view, which in no doubt is different to many other people in the industry.

Car Grooming is the process of cleaning, polishing and waxing an auto-mobile in order to achieve an as-new look and enhance the resale value. This usually includes cleaning the wheels & shuts, washing, polishing and waxing the bodywork, dressing exterior plastics and tyres, polishing brightwork and polishing the glass. The cleaning process should also include the use of a clay bar to remove unwanted contaminants from the paint such as iron filings, industrial fallout, tar spots and tree sap, which all cause the paint to feel rough and dull the appearance of the paint.

The exterior process includes a variety of chemicals, tools and accessories in order to reach awkward areas, clean off as much soiling as possible and leave the car looking as near to the condition the day it left the showroom as possible.
The interior would be vacuumed in all areas including, dash, centre console, seats, carpets, luggage areas and vents before a variety of chemicals and tools are used to wet clean any soiled areas such as upholstery, trim, carpets and headlinings.

So, what does ‘Car Detailing’ offer?

As you can see, car grooming offers a very extensive method of cleaning for your car and ensures you are left with a car with a higher re-sale value, pleasure to drive and a joy to look at.So what more can you do? This is where things start to blur.

The main difference is the paint rectification/correction process in order to get the paint looking its best i.e. free from swirl marks, scratches and other blemishes ruining the appearance. These are removed through the use of a machine polisher, usually a fixed rotary polisher but sometimes a Dual Action polisher is used on delicate paint or for the refining stage. This is combined with a selection of abrasive polishes and pads designed to remove defects, polish the surface and leave a flawless hologram and swirl-free finish.

Car detailing is about cleaning every surface possible on the car, including the removal of certain parts such as wheels, in order to get access to otherwise unreachable areas such as suspension, arch liners and brake components, certain metalwork and access to cleaning the wheels inner rim.

And, what is the confusion about?

In reality, its like anything, there will always be cheaper & inferior quality offerings in all walks of life, and due to car grooming being a popular service these days, there will of course be some people happy to offer a low-quality cheaper alternative.

Final Thoughts

Many people have come to relate car grooming and car detailing to mean the same services, when in reality simply due to the bad press of low-quality car detailing services available these days, they are still the same thing and just different terms used by different companies.

Some groomers also coined detailing as certain processes, such as snow foam, intricate parts cleaned, inner rim of wheel cleaned, using a clay bar etc. All these are to the confusion to the consumers.

Car Detailing – it’s about the attention to detail that differs the two services as opposed to a simple name change, and simply changing the name between the two isn’t and shouldn’t be enough.

Oh, those dark cockroaches infesting everything! The floors, the carpeting, even the car isn’t safe from their damn dirty antennae! And somehow, even with thousand sprays of bug repellent, nothing seems to be keeping these creatures out. It might be time to rake out the pandan leaves… but wait, you ask, how is this going to be effective in keeping the cockroaches out? Well, here in this article, we will explain.

Living in Singapore, you should be able to find them at your local market. this herb contains volatile oil which consist of compounds made from terpenes and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons which produces a smell that repels cockroaches.

But are pandan leaves really an effective solution against the vermin?

Since pandan leaves are a natural product, their levels of useful aroma chemicals vary significantly from one plant to the next. Pandan essences and extracts tend to produce a more reliable repellent effect, as long as the concentration of essential oils have been tested and normalized. In general, stronger-smelling leaves offer greater repellent ability.

They are actually much more potent and effective only when their essence are extracted; it required a much greater concentration of their pandan to have an effect. A study conducted in 2003, done by the School of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore showed that though pandan leaves work as a natural cockroach repellent, the concentration required to keep the critters away amount to you needing to be a pandan leaves trader.

In Singapore, drivers still believe in the myth of using pandan leaves to repel cockroaches in their vehicles. But given that there are limited benefits to using pandan leaves, it might just be worth a shot to try other contemporary methods. But then if you are a fan of Pandan Cake, sure; why not get some pandan leaves for your car. It’ll do you and your car some good, and sure beats air fresheners that some use anyway.
